STANLEY's talking toolbox says it's time to ditch the bull

STANLEY has unveiled a new global brand platform, "ALL BUILD. NO BULL.", as the toolmaker looks to strengthen its appeal among professionals in the small business construction sector.

The campaign marks a broader repositioning for the Stanley Black & Decker-owned brand, accompanied by an updated product portfolio and a creative platform centred on the realities of residential construction work. It aims to champion tradespeople who value practicality and reliability over exaggerated product claims.

Leading the campaign is "Stan", a talking toolbox introduced as the face of the initiative. Appearing across a series of 10 advertisements, the character pokes fun at marketing jargon, unnecessary product features and jobsite clichés, reinforcing the campaign's message that professionals need dependable tools rather than empty promises.

According to STANLEY, the platform is designed to reflect the experiences of independent contractors and small business owners, positioning the brand as one that prioritises honest work and products that help professionals complete more jobs efficiently.

The "ALL BUILD. NO BULL." platform will roll out across digital, social, retail and in-store channels beginning this month. The campaign will launch across North America, Latin America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, with retail activations taking place alongside select partners.

The campaign also draws on STANLEY's heritage, dating back to its founding in 1843 by Frederick Stanley. The company said its latest positioning builds on its long-standing focus on developing tools designed to solve practical challenges, highlighting products such as the 'No. 99 utility knife', the first steel tape measure and the 'TradeLift'.

Through the new platform, STANLEY is seeking to reinforce its reputation among trade professionals by focusing on durability, functionality and straightforward performance, while distancing itself from what it describes as unnecessary marketing hype.

"The people who rely on STANLEY every day know the difference between noise and substance," said Guilhaume Bonafe, brand president of STANLEY. "The new campaign sets the clear direction we are taking as a brand in everything we do: direct, confident and grounded in the realities of the job."

In tandem, Tim Buszka, senior director, global brand marketing for STANLEY, said, "Residential pros—especially the youngest among them—are savvy enough to be skeptical and quickly tune out anything that feels like empty talk or posturing."

"We're showing up and making a promise other tool brands won't, and capturing attention using a sense of humor that was born on the jobsite. When STANLEY unapologetically calls out the same bull they deal with in the field every day, we show that we've understood the job from day one—and prove it through the performance of every STANLEY tool," he added.

The launch comes as brands across categories continue to sharpen their global positioning through refreshed brand platforms. In June, KFC unveiled a global brand refresh aimed at capitalising on growing demand for chicken, introducing new menu platforms, updated restaurant formats and a refreshed visual identity.

Speaking to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE at the time, Jack Foley, CMO of KFC South Asia, said Asia remains one of the brand's most important growth markets globally, with local consumer insights and market-specific adaptations expected to play a key role in shaping its next phase of growth.
