SEC Newgate, the global communication and advocacy group, has appointed William Brocklehurst (pictured), as managing partner of its SEC Newgate China business.

SEC Newgate China specialises in corporate and public affairs, financial communications, crisis and issues management, with long established offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Brocklehurst, who will be based in Hong Kong, will lead the firm’s next phase of growth and development across the Chinese market, building on the strong foundations laid by former managing partner James Hill over the past five years, who is returning to Europe.

Brocklehurst brings with him significant agency and in-house corporate communications experience and expertise, having worked in the Chinese market for more than a decade. Brocklehurst joins SEC Newgate from Brunswick where he was a director in the Hong Kong office, having previously also worked for consultancy Teneo and healthcare company Bupa. Prior to working in Hong Kong, Brocklehurst worked for the business group CBI in the United Kingdom.

SEC Newgate’s head of APAC region and deputy group CEO, Brian Tyson, said: “We are delighted to welcome Brocklehurst on board to lead the next stage of SEC Newgate’s global growth in this critically important market. We see significant potential in China and believe Brocklehurst’s 20 plus years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, and geopolitical advisory will benefit our clients and help us to further grow our regional presence."

"Brocklehurst brings significant in-house corporate affairs expertise having worked for over a decade for global healthcare company Bupa both in the UK and then in Hong Kong, where he advised on the company’s public affairs strategy for market entry into China," he added.

Brocklehurst, said: “It is a great time to be joining one of the world’s fastest growing advisory firms to help drive its continued growth in China. SEC Newgate has built itself into one of the leading global players in strategic communications advice and counsel for local and global businesses.”

“I look forward to helping our clients manage risk, strengthen their reputation, and build stronger stakeholder relationships in this crucial market," he added.

SEC Newgate global CEO, Fiorenzo Tagliabue, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Brocklehurst to our team. His background and expertise aligns entirely with our core business strategy and priorities. As a global player that operates at the intersection of business, politics and media, we are seeing growing opportunities inbound and outbound with China and the region as a whole is a key focus for the business."
