Tribal SG gets candidates to pitch for job via invite-only app Clubhouse

Invite-only audio app Clubhouse has taken the world by storm and Tribal Worldwide Singapore is jumping on the hype to get potential content strategists based in Singapore to pitch for a job at the agency. Clubhouse became mainstream recently after Tesla founder Elon Musk hosted an audio-chat on Clubhouse with Robinhood CEO Vald Tenev on the platform. The app has two million users as of 1 February 2021, The Guardian reported.

Scheduled for 9pm tonight, candidates have 90 seconds to tell Asia president Jeff Cheong, head of content strategy Benjamin Lee, and associate planning director Susanna Yap why they should be interviewed for the content strategist role.

Candidates will have to answer two questions:

  • Tell me you are content strategist without telling me you are a content strategist.
  • Tell me you have potential to be a content strategist without telling me you have potential to be a content strategist.

The questions are a nod to a currently trending meme that asks social media users to share personal opinions and beliefs without using direct mentions of the subject. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed for the job. According to Tribal, being on the shortlist does not guarantee an individual the job. Yap told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that the team has been trying to hire for awhile and it can difficult to find quality candidates via the traditional channels even though it has been publishing JDs.

"This initiative is not a full on interview but it gives us an idea of the type of personality that they are presenting themselves. From the type of questions we ask, you'll know if they are suited for the role and this is much better and more entertaining than publishing a JD on LinkedIn, for example," Yap explained.

According to her, the content strategy team will be on hand to keep time and the agency plans to expand this pitch initiative to other roles if possible. "We generally favour culturally aware candidates who have a pulse on the latest trends in every interest group. We like people with different passions to bring to the table," she added.
