Ruder Finn has acquired Southeast Asia-based consultancy Era Communications, expanding its direct presence into five new markets, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

According to a statement seen by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, the move builds on Ruder Finn’s existing SEA operations in Singapore and Malaysia and reinforces its position as a leading independent communications player in the region.

Founded in 2015, Era Communications has earned a reputation for its sharp local insight and strategic comms capabilities across ASEAN’s emerging markets. The 90-person agency will now operate under the brand name Ruder Finn Era.

Its offerings span reputation management, branding, B2B communications, digital experience, and social impact, delivered through integrated solutions tailored to local market needs.

The acquisition is part of Ruder Finn’s wider “What’s next” vision, which blends storytelling and emerging technologies to deliver real-world impact. Ruder Finn is also pushing further into AI-powered communications through rf.TechLab, its emerging tech incubator. The firm recently launched an AI Advisory Council led by former OpenAI exec Zack Kass to help clients navigate the fast-shifting AI comms landscape.

“Expansion in the Asia-Pacific region is an integral part of our global growth strategy as a consultancy. The emerging markets throughout APAC and SEA represent a significant opportunity for our clients who are looking to grow their brand footprints,” said Kathy Bloomgarden, CEO of Ruder Finn.

She added, “Welcoming Era Communications builds on our presence in the region, and strengthens our ability to deliver tailored, results-driven solutions grounded in deep local knowledge—while upholding the global standards our clients expect.”

Elan Shou, global chief growth officer and managing director of Ruder Finn Asia, added, “Leveraging advanced AI technology, local insights, and global perspectives, we believe the most effective strategies seamlessly blend authentic storytelling with deep market expertise. This acquisition enhances our presence in key Southeast Asian markets through ERA’s exceptional local knowledge, positioning us to help clients thrive with campaigns that resonate across the region.”

In tandem, Anthony Larmon, managing director of Era Communications. “It was a no-brainer to become a part of one of the world’s best, and first-ever, PR firms. Our mission has always been to show to the industry around the world that the best work can come from anywhere, and this partnership with Ruder Finn lets us use its global leadership to deliver unrivalled creativity, strategy, service and value to clients all over our vibrant region."

He added, "I was especially excited by Ruder Finn’s tech-driven communications capabilities and AI expertise driven by rf.TechLab and Ruder Finn’s AI Advisory Council, which has the potential to transform businesses in our rapidly growing marketplaces.”

The announcement comes as Ruder Finn Asia continues to scale its influence in the region. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands the firm was recently appointed to lead a US$50 million global tourism campaign for Hong Kong.

The effort, aimed at shifting negative perceptions of the city, will see integrated digital, PR, and advertising efforts roll out across the US, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Australia. The campaign will position Hong Kong as a vibrant, energetic, and dynamic destination for both tourism and business.
