The North Face unveils trail run collection and race schedules

The North Face has introduced the Offtrail Ultra alongside its latest Summit Trail Run Collection, featuring a mountain racing gear system designed for training, racing, and technical off-road terrain.

Drawing inspiration from the brand's historic 1990 Trans-Antarctica Expedition (TAE), the collection combines high-performance footwear with lightweight protective apparel. The design incorporates a high-visibility colour palette honouring original TAE gear and features the International Flag of Planet Earth—a nod to the original expedition kit’s six country flags and a symbol of global exploration.

At the centre of the footwear lineup is the Offtrail Ultra mountain running shoe, which features the Summit Series category-first dual-density DREAMBOUND superfoam midsole system. Designed without carbon plates, extreme rockers, or towering stack heights, the shoe focuses on a clean, functional design built for steep descents, loose rock, scrambling, and rugged alpine routes.

Technical components include an integrated SCREEGUARD stretch gaiter to keep out trail debris, a reinforced mesh upper for durability and breathability, and an updated SURFACE CTRL G2 outsole equipped with high-traction lugs and a dedicated toe scrambling zone for improved control on uneven rock surfaces. Ahead of its official release, prototypes were field-tested by athletes across five continents, including conditions in New Zealand’s Southern Alps and Arctic Norway.

In tandem with the product launch, details have been announced for regional trail running events. The North Face 100 Ultra Trail Challenge 2027 Hong Kong (TNF 100 HK 2027) will take place from 19 March to 21 March 2027, at Wishing Tree Tai Po. The event features an updated format split into two difficulty categories: the Summit Level (comprising the 55KM Race, 100KM Race, and 100KM Team Relay) and the Adventure Level (comprising the 14KM Race and a newly introduced 27KM Race).

The new 27KM distance serves as a gateway course for road runners stepping up to mid-distance trails, featuring a moderate elevation profile across Pak Tai To Yan, Dragon Hill, and Cloudy Hill, alongside runnable sections that balance rhythm and endurance.

Runner packs for the 55KM and 100KM Solo races include a Summit Series High Trail Short-Sleeve T-Shirt made with FLASHDRY-PRO moisture-wicking fabric, underarm gussets, and a split hem. Participants in the 14KM, 27KM, and 100KM Team Relay categories will receive a TNF 100 HK 2027 Limited Edition Short-Sleeve T-Shirt.

Public registration for all categories opens on a first-come, first-served basis on Monday, August 10 at 4:00 PM, with early-bird rates available through September 13. The event features a total cash prize pool of HKD 60,000 for the top three overall male and female finishers in the 100KM category, alongside shopping vouchers and premium prizes for top finishers across other divisions. Finishers in the 14KM, 27KM, 55KM, and 100KM Team races will receive a medal and a shoe bag or neck gaiter, while the first 500 finishers in the 100KM race will receive an outdoor blanket.

Following the Hong Kong event, The North Face Ultra Trail Challenge 2027 - TaiChung is scheduled for 24 April to 25 April 2027, in Guguan, Taichung, with full registration details expected in September.
