Joey Zhao (pictured), CEO of PHD China, has been appointed chief operating officer of Omnicom Media (OM) China, effective immediately. Zhao brings over 15 years of cross-industry management experience to the dual role and will continue to lead PHD China alongside his new group-wide responsibilities.
In his new role, Zhao is responsible for driving operational excellence and scalable growth across OM China, working closely with the local leadership team to align capabilities, talent and processes. He will build a future-focused operating model designed to accelerate performance and deliver transformative results for clients and the business.
Under Zhao’s leadership, he has driven new business wins, including Volkswagen Group China and Bosch, as well as impressive client retentions for Max Mara and SAIC Volkswagen in 2025.
The appointment underscores OM’s commitment to elevating leadership from within, ensuring continuity and stability across the organisation. This internal promotion is a key part of OM China’s succession plan, positioning the company for continued growth and market competitiveness.
Prior to joining PHD China, Zhao was a partner at an investment group focused on marketing technology for China’s advertising, media, and communications industries. He honed his business acumen working for authorities and publicity system of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and held relevant management positions at renowned consulting firms, law firms and Fortune Global 500 multinational corporations.
Meanwhile, Claudine Kwek is stepping down as CEO of OM China, effective immediately.
Tony Harradine, CEO, OM Asia Pacific, said, “We could not have found a more capable leader than Joey to lead OM China into its next chapter of transformation. With his deep market expertise, operational acumen, and strong relationships with our clients and teams, I am confident he will accelerate growth, enhance our connected capabilities, and nurture our talent.”
“We also thank Claudine for her contributions, having successfully grown the business into a formidable force to be reckoned with, and wish her every success in her next chapter,” added Harradine.
