Sun Life's regional director, marketing performance and operations for Asia Philip Chau (pictured) has departed after two years.

In conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Chau said he enjoyed the time working at Sun Life, especially building the strong relationship with all Asia markets and its Canada team.

"I'm proud of the impact I have made, in elevating the company's performance culture across Asia. Currently, I would like to take a break from my full-time job to help expand my wife's pet business into new channels, as we see huge growth opportunity there. It is a project we have been talking for a while now, and with the recent surge of AI, it is a really timing to jump into that leveraging the latest tools, something I am truly excited about."

Chau has over 18 years of experience in digital innovation, performance marketing, and advanced analytics, having worked in corporate, agency and start up environments.

Prior to Sun Life, Chau headed up the group marketing department at the Regal Hotel Groups, covering 12+ hotels across Asia, managing a team of 30+ marketing team members. Before Regal, he headed the group marketing function at Great Eagle Holdings, where he led the strategy in marketing innovation, digital marketing, and martech across a range of business units such as hotels, residential properties, co-working spaces, shopping malls, and more.

Prior to Great Eagle, Chau worked at insurance company Aviva and was a founding member of the insurtech business Blue. As digital marketing department head, he oversaw the company’s customer acquisition, digital journey and digital analytics functions.

Back in October last year, Sun Life APAC appointed WPP Media to handle the media buying and planning for the brand's digital and brand remit, following a competitive pitch in July 2025, as confirmed to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

The appointment will last for two years and covers Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. It is understood that WPP Media was selected due to its strong understanding of local market nuances, as well as its proven multi-market capabilities. Additionally, the global team has a forward-looking message they would like to incorporate, highlighting its shared vision for the future.
