Ruder Finn Asia names new chief AI officer

Global communications consultancy Ruder Finn Asia has appointed Chung Kai (CK) Lim (pictured) as chief AI officer, AI product and strategy and launched its AI Accelerator across the region, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE confirmed.

The Singapore-based appointment covers Ruder Finn's 30 Asia-Pacific offices and more than 800 consultants, with a mandate spanning internal AI enablement, functional transformation across the business and the consultancy's client-facing AI product roadmap.

Lim joins from Dell Technologies, where he led AI and machine learning-powered digital demand generation across Asia-Pacific and Japan. His career spans both the technology and agency worlds, with prior regional marketing roles at Cognizant covering APJ, Japan and the Middle East, and earlier agency experience at Edelman Singapore and Hill+Knowlton Strategies in Kuala Lumpur.

His combination of enterprise martech and communications consultancy experience is understood to have been central to his hire, as agencies compete for talent able to bridge technical AI capability and client counsel.

The centrepiece of the appointment is the regional rollout of Ruder Finn's AI Accelerator, which the firm describes as a shift from isolated AI experiments to scalable, governed capabilities embedded throughout client work, agency workflows and talent development. The move addresses a problem familiar to many marketing executives: pilots that never make it into production.

The Accelerator model combines Ruder Finn's global AI investments and engineering infrastructure with local market insight, localising capabilities for regional client needs rather than importing a single global playbook. AI is embedded directly into research, strategy, content development, analytics and workflow orchestration.

Three client-facing capabilities sit within the Ruder Finn Asia AI Accelerator, including generative engine optimisation (GEO), a creative incubator combining rf.TechLab, rf.Studio53 and rf.Digital, applying generative AI to storytelling through synthetic media, digital twins, interactive experiences and scalable content production.

The third is predictive intelligence: proprietary platforms and analytics, supported by a partnership with a market intelligence firm, used to identify emerging trends, predict stakeholder behaviour and surface reputation risks before they materialise.

The appointment lands as the industry debate moves from standalone AI tools to the orchestration of intelligent agents. Ruder Finn's view is that 2026 marks an inflection point in which employees evolve from AI users to AI orchestrators, coordinating networks of copilots and agents that can reason, automate and act.

For executives weighing their own AI investments, the consultancy's framing is notable: the differentiator is no longer access to AI, which is now universal, but the ability to operationalise it with governance, measurement and accountability attached. For communications and marketing leaders specifically, the launch signals where agency economics are heading.

Ruder Finn is positioning AI capability as a revenue-generating offering rather than an internal efficiency play and expects clients to be advised on AI adoption.

"The future of communications will not be defined by who has access to AI, but by who can operationalise it responsibly and creatively”, Lim said. "Our ambition is to build Asia's most advanced AI-enabled communications organisation: one that combines global innovation and local expertise. Our mission? Help clients make better decisions and stay ahead of what's next."

The move comes as agencies across the region race to formalise AI leadership roles, with holding companies and independents alike appointing dedicated AI officers over the past 18 months amid client pressure to demonstrate capability beyond pilot projects.
