MegaBox brings giant corgi and murals to rooftop garden

MegaBox has partnered with local art platform Art Dreamers to present "Mega art space", a community art project combining giant murals with a 3D installation at the Mega Sky rooftop garden.
Located on level 18 of MegaBox in Kowloon Bay, the Mega Sky rooftop garden opened in June this year. The 30,000-square-foot space features floor-to-ceiling glass with a 270-degree view of East Kowloon and Victoria Harbour, along with trees and a lawn for visitors. Since its opening, the garden has drawn visitors looking for a quiet spot in the city, with its open layout and harbour views making it a popular place for both rest and photography.
The art project features veteran artist Li Hok Fung, who has created a series of giant cat and dog murals, including a five-metre-long artwork painted live on site, as well as a giant corgi mural fitted with a 3D inflatable tail. This transforms the mural into a semi-three-dimensional artwork that "breaks out of the wall" and adds an interactive element.

Visitors can view the artwork from different angles, as the inflatable tail extends beyond the flat surface of the wall. Also on display are award-winning works from a drawing competition for students ranging from kindergarten to secondary school, giving young artists a chance to showcase their work alongside a professional artist.
Li's corgi mural has been recreated as "Mochi", a 10 metre wide giant inflatable installation now stationed at the Mega Sky rooftop garden. The installation sits on the garden's lawn, facing the Victoria Harbour sunset. Mochi is designed to look like it is resting on the grass, and its size and placement make it a noticeable feature against the city skyline.
After dark, Mega Sky stages a large-scale outdoor cat- and dog-themed light show every evening, with illuminated cats and dogs appearing to music. The light show adds a different atmosphere to the garden at night, with the city lights in the background completing the scene. The exhibition and light show are now open to the public and will run until 13 September.
