Digital marketing agency Lion & Lion has appointed Jonathan Lee (pictured) as its new head of business development and integrated brand consulting. Lee will be reporting to Cheelip Ong, the agency's group chief executive officer (CEO).

In his hybrid role, Lee will spearhead the agency's business expansion, focusing on transforming brands through integrated strategy, consulting, innovation, and technology, ensuring they deliver impact in today’s hyper-connected world.

In conversations with A+M, a Lion & Lion spokesperson said Lee was previously at LOKi Digital, where he held the role of lead client director and digital strategist. He was also the director of strategy at creative firm C27.

His longest stint was at advertising company 180.ai where he took on the roles of head of creative, executive vice-president, chief creative officer, executive partner and group chief creative officer throughout the six years. He also served as the Great China chief creative officer for MullenLowe Group during his time in China.

Lee brings over a decade of experience in 360 digital marketing, media, editorial content, and strategic planning across various sectors including corporate communication, entertainment, banking, beauty, food and beverage (F&B), telecommunications, automotive and pharmaceuticals.

Additionally, Lee worked with multiple brands during his time in the industry, including Axiata, NIPSEA, TL Group, Netflix, Spotify, Viacom, BVCT, Maybank, Cetaphil, Clarins, Tiger, U Mobile, Honda, Toyota and Astrazeneca.

Ong said, "I am excited with Lee coming on board, adding a new layer of strength and hybrid skill sets to our formidable team. At Lion & Lion, our success is defined by the impact we create for our clients."

"With Lee joining as our new head of business and integrated brand consulting, we are strengthening our commitment to delivering strategic, insight-driven solutions that drive brand and business growth, helping our clients navigate the complexities of today’s omnichannel marketing landscape with clarity, purpose, and success," he added.

In tandem, Lee said, "I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of the Lion & Lion team as we embark on a new chapter of empowering brands and businesses to build deeper, more meaningful connections with their audiences across all their interactions. I’ve always admired the agency for its creative excellence and innovative digital solutions, and will look forward to driving stronger integrated strategies and thought leadership, with personalised (and tailored proprietary) solutions for our customers."

In January this year, the agency appointed Ong as the new group CEO. Ong succeeded Fredrik Gumpel, who stepped down from his role after over five years at the helm. Ong possesses 23 years of industry experience, starting his career in agencies such as Euro RSCG, Leo Burnett Singapore, Gosh Advertising and Frontage Inc, before moving to China at the end of 2012.

His longest stint was at Beijing advertising company 180.ai where he took on the roles of head of creative, executive vice president, chief creative officer, executive partner and group chief creative officer throughout the six years.

Following which he joined Wunderman as its chief creative officer before taking on the role of regional chief creative officer / chief product officer at Lion & Lion in 2019, a position he had held for over 5 years.
