Klook and Hong Kong Tramways have teamed up to launch a mobile dining experience featuring direct-to-tram food delivery, combining the city's beloved tram heritage with genuine local flavours.

Also known as "Ding Ding foodie tour" (叮叮美食團), the collaboration taps into the growing trend of immersive cultural travel, offering both international visitors and local residents the chance to enjoy classic Hong Kong signature dishes aboard a tram while soaking up the vibrant street-side atmosphere of the city.

Klook has cited its 2026 "Travel pulse" study on travel habits and trends that, food experiences rank as the top local activity among global travellers (52%), followed closely by city tours (42%). The newly launched "Ding Ding foodie tour " combines these two most popular travel elements, ushering in a new model for the travel experience economy.

A spokesperson from Klook told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that the partnership is built on a dual-audience strategy designed to drive both inbound tourism and local leisure spending. For inbound tourists, the initiative offers an authentic and hassle free way to explore Hong Kong's culinary heritage, eliminating the challenges of navigating transport or enduring long restaurant queues.

Meanwhile, for local residents, it taps into a growing appetite for nostalgic weekend "Citywalk" experiences, unique date ideas, and slow paced urban exploration that weaves together local heritage, food culture, and the arts.

The "Ding Ding foodie tour" introduces a regional mobile dining model, serving passengers classic delicacies from renowned eateries and time-honoured establishments across Hong Kong Island - all aboard a tram. The journey features a selection of seven freshly prepared local signature dishes, including roast meat rice, Hong Kong-style dim sum, and egg tarts, showcasing the city's rich culinary heritage. For added convenience, all food items are specially prepared in bite-sized portions, with select seats equipped with dining tables for easy onboard enjoyment.

This experience allows travellers to sample a variety of local flavours in a single itinerary, without the need to queue at multiple restaurants or plan transport routes, while also deepening their appreciation of Hong Kong's food culture. In addition, the tour combines dining with sightseeing, featuring live guided commentary that introduces landmarks and culinary stories along the tram route from Western District to Causeway Bay.

The "Ding Ding foodie tour" operates from Fridays to Sundays, with four daily tours and two route options departing from Causeway Bay Tram Terminus and Whitty Street Tram Depot respectively. Tickets are now available exclusively on the Klook platform.

Another highlight is the collaboration with Hong Kong LEGO artist Andy Hung, who has created lifelike LEGO models of classic local dishes and a limited-edition postcard set - turning the city's food culture into collectible art. The tour is more than a mobile feast; it's an immersive experience blending food, culture, and art.

By combining the tram's heritage with Klook's platform and integrating dining, sightseeing, and live commentary, the "Ding Ding foodie tour" offers a deeper Hong Kong experience. Both partners seek to meet market demand and showcase the city's diverse appeal as a global travel destination.

To promote the collaboration, the campaign has utilised an integrated omnichannel promotional mix, featuring engaging video reels and immersive visual content across Klook's official channels, including Instagram, to bring the onboard experience to life. This is complemented by strategic joint PR outreach targeting business, lifestyle, and travel media across local and regional outlets.

High impact daily visibility is generated by the fully wrapped "Ding Ding Foodie Tour" branded tram, which traverses Hong Kong Island. In addition, invited influencers and key media partners have been brought in for experience trials, and their firsthand content is leveraged to support promotional efforts.

Kenny Sham, global events head and general manager, Hong Kong and Macau, Klook, said: "Hong Kong Tramways has been part of the city's fabric for over a century, carrying its history and energy. We are truly honoured to partner with them to blend two of the most sought-after travel elements - local cuisine and urban exploration - into one experience, while transforming collective memories into a fresh journey that balances fun and sophistication.”

"The launch of the 'Ding Ding foodie tour' redefines traditional sightseeing by turning the familiar tram carriage into an immersive culinary and cultural adventure. It offers both locals and international visitors a new perspective to easily discover authentic flavours and deeply appreciate the unique cultural charm of Hong Kong," Sham added.

Nixon Cheung, head of commercial and brand, Hong Kong Tramways, said: "Riding the 'Ding Ding' has always been an essential classic experience for many visitors to Hong Kong. The trams have traversed Hong Kong Island for over 120 years, beloved by both locals and tourists alike, and have become a one-of-a-kind cultural icon of the city. We have been dedicated to reinventing this century-old brand by continuously developing new riding experiences."

"We noticed that modern travellers not only seek deep cultural exploration but also place great importance on comfort and convenience throughout their journey. That is why Hong Kong Tramways is delighted to collaborate with Klook on the 'Ding Ding foodie tour,' bringing local flavours from renowned eateries across the city directly onto the tram. Passengers can enjoy a selection of classic Hong Kong dishes during a leisurely one-hour ride. We hope this innovative cross-sector experience, which integrates culture, cuisine, and sightseeing, will continue to inject new vitality into Hong Kong's tourism industry," Cheung added.

As an iconic heritage element of Hong Kong, trams have long been leveraged by brands to engage with both locals and tourists. Back in April last year, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) and Hong Kong Tramways partnered up to launch a Duffy and Friends-themed TramOramic tour (電車全景遊) to surprise fans.

As part of the campaign, Duffy and Friends plushies took a ride on the 1920s-style open-top tram for the first time, aiming to add a splash of spring magic to the lively streets of Hong Kong Island.
