How Shake Shack and Sentosa are serving wellness with a side of burgers

How Shake Shack and Sentosa are serving wellness with a side of burgers

Shake Shack Singapore is taking its summer menu out of the Shack and onto the sand, teaming up with Sentosa for a one-day wellness festival combining fitness, recovery, food and entertainment.

Dubbed "Shack summer wellness", the event will take over Siloso Beach on 29 August, marking the burger chain's latest push to grow Shake Shack as a lifestyle brand in Singapore and create experiences for consumers beyond its restaurants.

The activation was inspired in part by the launch of Shake Shack's limited-time Summer Greek Shack menu, with the brand looking to translate the lighter, summery positioning of the menu into a physical experience.

"With the fresh and lighter flavours of our new limited time Summer Greek Shack menu, we wanted to create an experience that brought the spirit of summer to life beyond the table," a Shake Shack Singapore spokesperson told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

The spokesperson added that "Shack summer wellness" forms part of the brand's broader strategy to grow Shake Shack as a lifestyle brand locally by creating experiences centred around movement, creativity, connection and food.

Sentosa was brought on board as a partner due to its association with leisure and recreation, as well as its fit with the summer positioning of the campaign. According to Shake Shack, both brands also share an interest in creating community experiences that bring people together.

Siloso Beach, meanwhile, offered an environment where consumers could step away from their usual routines, spend time outdoors and engage with the brand in a more social setting.

Running from morning through evening, the festival will feature yoga sessions led by Yoga Movement, guided cold plunges, creative workshops, community games and social activities. Shake Shack said the programme is designed to give its fans opportunities to interact with the brand outside a traditional restaurant setting.

"We see experiences as an opportunity to deepen our relationship with our Shack fans beyond the restaurant," the spokesperson said, adding that the brand wants consumers to associate Shake Shack not only with food, but also with "moments of connection, community and enjoyment".

Daytime tickets are priced at SG$60 and include access to the wellness activities, a Summer Greek Shack meal bundle, as well as event merchandise and giveaways.

The food offering includes a choice of the 'Summer Greek Shack' or 'Summer Greek chicken', alongside 'Summer Greek fries' or a 'six-piece chicken bites' and a Summer Rose Fifty/Fifty. The limited-time menu draws inspiration from Mediterranean flavours and forms part of the wider summer experience.

As evening rolls around, the activation will shift from wellness sessions to a movie night on the beach. From 7.30pm, guests can settle into the sand for an outdoor screening of Disney's animated classic The Little Mermaid.

Tickets for the evening experience are priced at SG$70 for two guests and include admission to the screening, two Summer Greek Shack meal bundles and "Shack summer wellness" merchandise.

For Shake Shack, however, the measure of the activation will go beyond getting people through the door, or, in this case, onto the sand. The brand said it will also look at how meaningfully consumers engage with the experience and whether there is appetite for similar initiatives.

"We've seen great excitement from our Shack Fans through community events such as 'Shack run' and 'Shack pickleball', and 'Shack summer wellness' is another way for us to bring the community together in a fun and meaningful way," the spokesperson said.

While there are no specific plans to share yet, Shake Shack said it remains open to developing more lifestyle and community-led experiences in Singapore.

This focus on wellness also builds on Shake Shack Singapore's efforts earlier this year to tap into the city's growing fitness culture. In January, the brand launched Shack Track Club, a community-led running initiative designed to bring consumers together beyond the dining table through a mix of movement, social experiences and, naturally, burgers.

Held quarterly, Shack Track Club typically sees participants begin and end their runs at Shake Shack outlets, with the brand exploring more frequent sessions based on demand. The initiative has also involved local partners and creatives, including running club Jolly Pace Group and artist Tobyato, as Shake Shack looks to engage young, urban consumers through lifestyle-led experiences that extend beyond food.
