Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB)'s general manager of event and product development Raymond Chan (pictured) will step down from his role in two months.
According to his social media platform, Chan said he will take a break after leaving the company and embark on a journey to explore his true self.
Chan joined the HKTB in 2012, having held a number of key marketing and public affairs positions in Southeast Asian and other markets. He was promoted to the position of regional director, Southeast Asia in May 2018, and has been responsible for developing and driving marketing strategies and promotions of Hong Kong in the region.
Most recently, he was the regional director of Southeast Asia, based out of Singapore. In 2023, he relocated to HKTB's Hong Kong head office to take on the role as general manager, event and product development. During his tenure, he was in charge of leading several mega events in the city including Tai Hang Dragon Dance show, firework and drone shows and more.
Prior to HKTB, Chan was the regional head of marketing and commercial at AirAsia, where he was responsible for strategising AirAsia's overall branding, PR, B2C marketing, digital and market development activities in Hong Kong, Macau and China to achieve overall P&L and KPIs with strong creation, development and successful execution of a comprehensive marcom strategy focusing on driving consumer direct channels.
He was also tasked at deploying creative channels including digital, SEM, social media as well as event activations to maximise business opportunities in a cost-efficient manner and to build a consistent level of ‘buzz’ around the brand.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Chan and HKTB for a statement.
Recently, HKTB launched a new seasonal thematic promotion “Hong Kong Cultural Beat” to showcase the city’s unique traditional festivals and cultural events for visitors and locals alike. A spectacular drone show marked the beginning of the promotion on 1 May.
Themed around Hong Kong’s internationally renowned intangible cultural heritage festivals – the Tin Hau Festival, the Tam Kung Festival, and the iconic Cheung Chau Bun Festival, the 12-minute show featured a fleet of 1,000 drones, creating mesmerising images that captured the essence of the festivals, drawing enthusiastic crowds of locals and visitors to the Victoria Harbour waterfront.
The show incorporated original musical compositions that harmonised eastern and western influences, with a mixture of electronic music and traditional drums. A standout moment was the adaptation of the renowned tune The General’s Command, which captured the drama of the bun scrambling contest. The music then slowed to a rousing finale, conveying blessings and warm wishes to the spellbound crowds.
