HKTB presents new edition of Hong Kong New Year countdown for 2026

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) successfully hosted the New Year countdown at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central for the first time. The event featured a brand-new format combining live music and a light show, bringing locals, visitors and global audiences together to welcome 2026 with positive energy and blessings.  

Light performance to spread positivity and blessings 

Themed “New hopes, new beginnings”, the three-minute light show was staged on the façades of eight landmark buildings participating in the “Immersive light show in Central”, featuring giant countdown clocks and dazzling light patterns, sending blessings to both the on-site audience and viewers worldwide as we welcome the new year.  

A novel countdown showcase combining music and lights 

The event featured a thrilling line-up of music performances. Headlining the event would be internationally acclaimed group Air Supply, performing a selection of their timeless classics, on top of live appearances by renowned local artists Jay Fung and Cloud Wan. Also, the performances from a children’s choir and the Hong Kong Police Band, setting the stage for the countdown moment. 

Live broadcasts across media outlets and free-to-air TV  

Large screens were set up at Chater Garden and Edinburgh Place in Central to broadcast the live countdown show. Additionally, the façade of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui featured projection displays of the event and the glass façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai displayed a giant countdown clock, allowing the public to soak in the new year ambience from various locations. Also joining the event through a livestream were audiences around the globe.
