HK-based Sunny Idea shuts down abruptly

Hong Kong-based entertainment and creative agency Sunny Idea has abruptly shut down last Friday due to significant challenges within its entertainment division, MARKETING-INTERACTIVE understands.
The closure has affected approximately 30 employees, including members of the creative and entertainment departments. Sunny Idea's official website, LinkedIn and Instagram pages are now unavailable, only its Facebook page remains, a check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw.
It is understood that the creative department is working hard to settle the clients to minimise the effect at the moment and in parallel actively seeking a new workspace to sustain operations.
Established in 2013, Sunny Idea operated on a distinctive ecosystem model that integrated advertising, content production, and entertainment to engage consumers.

The agency was also known for organising various concerts for renowned artists, including a show by Ken Hung last November. That concert was ultimately cancelled due to a fire at Tai Po’s Wang Fuk Court. Although the cancellation was announced over three months ago, there has reportedly been no progress on ticket refunds, leading Hung to publicly criticise the organiser on social media.
“No one wants natural or man-made disasters. After the concert was cancelled, fans who bought tickets have been left completely in the dark with no updates on how refunds would be handled. As the organiser, shouldn’t you come out and explain!” Hung said.
This is not the first time a creative agency has closed in Hong Kong. In 2024, Hakuhodo closed its Hong Kong office, with all staff terminated by 31 December 2024 following a two-month notice period.
