Chiikawa returns to HK with lantern pop-up at AIRSIDE

In celebration of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the beloved Japanese IP character Chiikawa and friends have returned to Hong Kong in festive, locally inspired looks.

Organised by creative brand AllRightsReserved (ARR), the "CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE Moon-lantern fest exclusive event" has officially launched at the 2/F Atrium of AIRSIDE, running through 4 October and extending the popular "CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE" summer exhibition into the autumn season.

Centred on a uniquely Hong Kong "Moon-lantern fest" theme, the event features an exclusive pop-up store debuting alongside the "CHIIKAWA DAYS" exhibition in Shanghai, a reimagined 2D "CHIIKAWA-go-round" photo zone, and surprise appearances by Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi to meet local fans.

Drawing inspiration from classic paper lanterns that have accompanied generations of Hong Kong residents, the three main characters are reimagined as traditional Mid-Autumn festival staples: Chiikawa as the nostalgic accordion paper lantern, Hachiware as the vibrant goldfish lantern, and Usagi as the classic rabbit lantern.

The centrepiece of the new collection includes lantern plushes and compact lantern plush keychains. Taking the lantern concept a step further, each full-sized plush features a traditional-style handheld stick handle, allowing fans to hold it like a real lantern during the festivities. The pop-up store also offers a variety of themed collectibles and capsule toys available on-site while stocks last.

To reward fans who supported the summer event, the pop-up store is open exclusively to registered "CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE" exhibition ticket holders during its first five days, from 21 to 25 September.

Ticket holders also have access to a dedicated on-site counter to collect items previously pre-ordered during the summer exhibition. The event will open to the general public from 26 September to 4 October with no advance registration required, allowing visitors to join the queue directly on the second floor of AIRSIDE on a first-come, first-served basis.

The just concluded CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE exhibition brought together the artistic mastery of illustrator Nagano, bringing audiences a deeper look into the charm of works that are "more than just cute". Nagano has specially created a brand-new CHIIKAWA-Go-Round for this exhibition; as well as being transformed into the world's first CHIIKAWA giant carousel art installation, a variety of globally debuted limited-edition souvenirs were available.

The festive pop-up follows the success of the "CHIIKAWA ARTIVERSE" summer exhibition, which highlighted the deeper artistic appeal of creator Nagano's works through the world’s first giant CHIIKAWA carousel installation and exclusive global merchandise debuts.

It also reflects the franchise's growing commercial momentum in the region, coming on the heels of major brand collaborations including McDonald's Hong Kong and MTR Corporation, which launched themed light rail trains, station installations, and passenger rewards earlier this year.
