Can you survive Mediacorp 987’s hijacked signal?

Mediacorp 987 is taking its Halloween programming beyond the airwaves with a radio-themed escape room that puts listeners inside a hijacked station.

Titled “Mediacorp 987’s signal hijacked: The purge protocol”, the immersive experience was created in collaboration with Xcape Singapore and will run until 1 November 2026. It is billed as Singapore’s first radio-themed escape room and forms part of the station’s efforts to bring its personalities and content into a physical experience.

The 75-minute experience casts participants as a group of new interns arriving at 987 for their first day on the job. What begins as a tour of the station led by a radio personality takes a darker turn when night falls and a citywide “Purge” begins.

After being told to remain inside the station for their safety, players discover that something is amiss. They must work together to uncover clues, solve puzzles and piece together the story behind a hijacked radio signal before time runs out.

The experience also brings several of 987’s radio personalities into the storyline through specially created audio and visual elements. Ann Nicole, Avery Aloysius, Germaine Tan, Joakim Gomez, Louisa Kan, Natasha Faisal and Sonia Chew feature throughout the game as players navigate the fictional 987 station.

By weaving its personalities and the familiar setting of a radio station into the experience, 987 is extending the relationship listeners have with the station beyond traditional broadcasts and digital content, turning its on-air identity into an interactive Halloween experience.

The activation comes as other entertainment brands in Singapore are similarly leaning into immersive experiences during the Halloween period. Zouk, for example, is turning childhood nostalgia on its head with “PLAY DEAD”, which will transform its newly renovated complex into a playground of forgotten toys, warped childhood favourites and immersive worlds.

Running across 30 and 31 October, “PLAY DEAD” marks Zouk’s first Halloween weekend since its full relaunch and will span four venues, each reimagined as a different world inspired by abandoned toys and childhood memories.

In conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Christine Tan Li Ann, head of brand marketing at Zouk Group, said the team wanted a concept audiences could immediately understand while still providing enough creative room to build an entire world around it. Childhood toys offered that balance by feeling both comforting and unsettling, while tapping into memories shared across generations.
