Apple China pairs humour with data security in new campaign

Apple China has launched the fourth installment of its annual iPhone privacy campaign, continuing its popular collaboration with renowned crosstalk comedian Yue Yunpeng.

Directed by Zhang Dapeng, the latest creative pushes the brand's focus on app privacy protection, illustrating how Apple integrates privacy into everyday life and gives users distinctive, intuitive control over their data.

The campaign features a 55-second social film, a 30-second commercial, and two 15-second shorts. The longer spots leverage Yue's signature humor to make a complex topic approachable, while the two 15-second shorts use simple animations to show how the iPhone's App Permissions feature provides transparency.

With App Permissions, users can control exactly which third-party apps access hardware such as the camera or microphone) or personal data such as location, contacts, and photos, with the ability to grant, restrict, or revoke access at any time via Settings.

Developed in partnership with TBWA\Media Arts Lab Shanghai, the creative concept anthropomorphises a newly downloaded app, which takes human form to engage in playful banter with Yue across everyday scenarios. As the "app" repeatedly pesters Yue for his contacts and location, a hesitant Yue learns from an Apple Specialist how the App Permissions feature effortlessly puts him back in control.

Beyond digital video, the campaign extends to out-of-home (OOH) activations across multiple Chinese cities and runs on key social platforms like WeChat and Douyin. Now in its fourth year, the initiative underscores Apple's broader commitment to making robust privacy protection simple and user-friendly.

Most recently, Apple launched a new campaign for its AirPods Pro 3, putting global football star Vinícius Júnior at the centre of a film that celebrates the product's noise-cancelling capabilities.

Titled "Dança", the 30-second spot follows Vini Jr. dancing through a series of noisy urban environments. However, unlike a typical dance-focused commercial, viewers never hear the music he is listening to. Instead, the film amplifies the surrounding sounds of the bustling locations he moves through, highlighting how AirPods Pro 3 blocks out distractions.
