7-Eleven HK taps homegrown heritage with first-ever Yasaki collab

7-Eleven Hong Kong is leaning into local heritage to celebrate its 45th anniversary, teaming up with homegrown 1980s sneaker icon Yasaki for a debut special edition collection. Under the anniversary theme "Always here, made for more!", the partnership bridges retro street style with modern retail strategy.
The collaboration is a strategic nod to shared cultural roots. While Yasaki is a brand many Hongkongers grew up with, 7-Eleven has been a fixture of the city’s daily life for over four decades. This shared community presence serves as the foundation for reviving Yasaki’s most iconic silhouettes for a new generation.
In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, a 7-Eleven spokesperson said the collaboration leverages the 45-year milestone to spotlight local brands that have shaped Hong Kong’s culture. "Yasaki was a natural partner, given its deep-rooted heritage and its continued evolution into a more creative and innovation-driven brand," the spokesperson said.
The campaign aims to create a "win-win" scenario by driving brand value and deeper consumer engagement. "The campaign brings fresh, culturally relevant experiences to customers through lifestyle products inspired by Hong Kong," the spokesperson added.
The five-piece 7-Eleven 45th Anniversary × Yasaki special edition collection features upgraded construction and premium materials, subtly infused with 7-Eleven’s signature branding.
Leading the way is the Y729 EVOLVA sneaker, inspired by the legendary 1989 YM729 – its retro silhouette intact, comfort fully updated. The Y126 Bowling Bag makes a welcome return alongside a reissued retro cap, while the Y175 mini bag brings the classic bowling bag shape down to a size one would actually carry every day.
Completing the collection are the daily socks, pairing 7-Eleven's signature red, green and orange with Yasaki's blue in a colourblock that pulls any retro look together. The collection - specifically the bowling bag, and mini bag—will be available starting 29 April via the 7-Eleven pre-order platform and the official 7-Eleven app.
The campaign adopts a culture-led, omnichannel approach across the 7-Eleven app, social platforms, and physical touchpoints. By reinterpreting nostalgic designs through a modern lens, the retailer aims to position itself as a "connector" of local creativity rather than just a retail platform.
“For 45 years, 7‑Eleven has been part of everyday life in Hong Kong — constantly evolving to stay relevant and surprising in a fast-moving retail landscape,” said Gloria Shiu, marketing director of 7‑Eleven Hong Kong & Macau. “As we mark this milestone, and through collaborations such as Yasaki, we’re not only celebrating with our customers, but also strengthening how we bring great local brands closer to the community."
"Our collaboration with Yasaki brings together two brands deeply rooted in Hong Kong culture, and reflects how we continue to evolve — not just as a retailer, but as a platform for local creativity and new ideas, staying true to our belief of ‘Always here, made for more!’," she added.
Most recently, 7-Eleven transformed two stores into retro-themed destinations designed to drive foot traffic and social engagement. To mark its 45th anniversary, the retailer has reworked outlets in Mong Kok and Tsuen Wan, drawing on some of the city’s most recognisable visual cues, from neon signage to hand-lettered minibus plates by local neon artisan Master Wu Chi-kai.
The installation blends 7-Eleven branding with neighbourhood references, including mahjong tiles, goldfish street motifs and a nod to a nearby locksmith, paired with the phrase “Achievement Unlocked”.
