Visa sharpens its identity for the AI shopping era

Visa has refreshed its visual identity, updating its typography, imagery, illustration, motion and digital design while retaining its existing name, logo, purpose and values.

As part of the refresh, Visa has introduced a new standalone “V” symbol and a custom typeface, 'Visa Sans', as part of a visual identity refresh aimed at keeping the payments brand recognisable across an increasingly digital commerce landscape.

The update also replaces the blue, white and yellow flag-like symbol with the single-letter mark, while retaining the Visa name and existing wordmark. The new typeface also gives the brand a refreshed typographic expression.

According to Visa, the update is intended to preserve the familiarity and trust associated with its brand while allowing it to adapt to new commerce experiences. Rather than a complete rebrand, it builds on an identity that has evolved alongside payments for more than six decades.

The changes are also designed to make Visa's identity more adaptable across digital platforms and smaller screens, where consumers increasingly encounter brands while browsing, shopping and making payments.

The update comes as consumer shopping journeys increasingly span multiple channels, from discovering products through creator content and online communities to researching options on apps and completing purchases in physical stores. Artificial intelligence (AI) is also playing a growing role in how consumers compare products and make purchasing decisions.

The company also pointed to the emergence of AI-enabled and agentic commerce, in which AI systems can help consumers navigate choices and act on their behalf. As new interfaces and participants reshape how people pay and shop, Visa aims to remain recognisable across experiences designed for both people and technology.

Visa last refreshed its brand identity in 2021, working with global brand design firm Mucho on updated colours, a custom typeface and a new brand symbol designed to improve its digital presence. The refresh was intended to position Visa as more than a credit card company as digital commerce evolved.
