Over the weekend, UOB marked its ninetieth birthday and Singapore’s sixty years of independence with a head-turning marketing spectacle that transformed UOB Plaza 1 into the world’s tallest, brightest and longest projection mapping canvas.

The record-breaking showcase, which kicked off on 28 June and runs nightly until 9 August, sees the 280-metre-tall tower beam out a series of projection shows that celebrate UOB’s legacy and Singapore’s growth story, blending technology, culture and community in one massive branding statement.

Developed with local multimedia integrator Hexogon Solution, the main show titled "Unity" has already bagged three Guinness World Records for the largest light output, longest architectural projection-mapped display and the highest projection image on a building. The six-minute display produces a total of 5.85 million lumens and 250 million pixels. By comparison, a standard television consists of approximately 2.1 million pixels.

Led by creative director Benjamin Tan, "Unity" unfolds in three acts titled "Time", "Transformation" and "Tomorrow". The three acts stitches UOB’s heritage with its ambition for ASEAN’s future. Local cultural references, from Wayang Kulit puppets to bonsai trees, anchor the visuals in familiar Singaporean motifs while underscoring the bank’s push for sustainability and community impact.

To extend the impact, the building will also showcase the "UOB painting of the year" series, projecting 30 winning artworks spanning four decades onto the tower’s facade each night. Launched in 1982, the competition is Singapore’s longest-running art prize and serves as a centrepiece of UOB’s long-term arts patronage.

In addition, SG60-themed animations link UOB’s nine-decade journey with the nation’s progress, with visuals by local artist Sam Lo spotlighting Singapore’s multicultural identity and collective spirit. The showcase is designed to connect seamlessly with this year’s National Day Parade, tying performances at the Padang to visuals around Marina Bay.

The shows run twice nightly from Mondays to Thursdays and three times nightly on Fridays and Saturdays, with additional art projections and SG60 visuals at intervals through the evening.

Janet Young, head of group channels and digitalisation, strategic communications and brand at UOB, said the projection is both a celebration and a thank you to generations who have grown with the bank. Our growth story is closely tied with Singapore’s growth story, and we are deeply grateful for the continuous support from our community, who have grown and journeyed with us across generations and regions," said Young.

"The projection showcase is our way of giving back – offering a record-breaking visual spectacle for the community, both for those who are based here and those visiting from overseas, to enjoy and to celebrate our shared journey," she added.

The shows run twice nightly from Mondays to Thursdays and three times nightly on Fridays and Saturdays, with additional art projections and SG60 visuals at intervals through the evening.

Brands in Singapore are pulling out all the stops for the nation’s 60th birthday, rolling out experiences for every kind of Singaporean. Animal lovers can explore Mandai Wildlife Group’s parks with immersive encounters and special bundles, while culture buffs can catch vibrant Peranakan showcases across Sentosa and Mount Faber. Fashion fans can also snap up Singapore-inspired drops from PAZZION and Killiney.
