Study: 77% in marketing and media are willing to move to SG for work

Inbound talent to Singapore mostly hail from neighbouring countries, such as Malaysia (30%), Thailand (22%), Indonesia (19%) and the Philippines (14%), seeking job opportunities in marketing and media, digital, data science and AI industries.

More specifically, talent in marketing and media (77%) roles are the most willing to move abroad to Singapore for work followed closely by those in digitalisation, data science and AI roles (76%).

These were the results of the ‘Decoding Global Talent 2024’ study published by Boston Consulting Group, The Network of which Jobstreet by SEEK is a part of.

The global study surveyed more than 150,000 workforce respondents from 188 countries to reveal that most people chose Singapore for the quality of job opportunities available (74%).

Other factors that led to Singapore’s popularity as a job destination included the country's overall quality of life (57%), considerations of income, tax and cost of living (57%) alongside Singapore’s reputation for safety, stability, and security (55%).

In fact, Singapore is the top Asian city that most respondents would consider moving to for work and maintained its rank at number eight from 2020 for its global perception as a work destination. In contrast, Singapore was the eighteenth most popular work destination in 2018 globally.

On the other hand, 64% of Singapore respondents expressed a willingness to pursue opportunities abroad, especially in Australia (33%), followed by other high-tech and mature economies such as China (16%) and Japan (14%).

Financial and economic reasons are the top considerations for Singaporeans to move abroad (60%), followed by a better overall quality of life (57%).

Interestingly, Singaporeans indicated a higher requirement of assistance from employers when moving abroad for a job. Over 80% of them expect support with housing assistance and relocation support which is higher than the SEA and global share of 78% and 79% respectively.
