Sun Life and HK Shine Tak Foundation drive community wellness

Sun Life Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation have launched “Ride-to-shine” Hong Kong, a citywide smart cycling initiative aimed at uniting the community through sport and healthy living.

Under the theme “Participation for all,” the campaign invites people from all walks of life to collectively rack up 1.2 million kilometers—a distance equivalent to circling the Earth 30 times—while promoting wellness and fostering stronger local bonds.

As part of the initiative, a primary hub featuring 100 stationary smart bicycles has been installed at Salisbury Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui. The station is open to the public free of charge throughout the four-week campaign, allowing every kilometer pedaled to count toward the city’s shared 1.2 million-kilometer goal.

Located along the iconic Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade near Victoria Harbour and the Avenue of Stars, the setup invites both local residents and tourists to join the challenge while taking in Hong Kong’s scenic skyline.

To ensure participation extends beyond the main harborfront, organizers are deploying a mobile cycling platform equipped with smart bikes across all 18 districts of Hong Kong—visiting local neighborhoods, schools, corporations, and public events. The mobile platform will also travel to key Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities, including Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Zhongshan, to encourage regional engagement and foster cross-city connections.

The event also brought together a group of guests and “Energy ambassadors”, including Asian cycling legend Wong Kam Po, Hong Kong men’s road cyclist Daniel Yip Hon Man, former Hong Kong cycling team athlete Domino Chau Dor Ming, and artists Toby Chan Ting Yan and Cathy Wong Ka Wi, as well as representatives from across the community and supporting organisations.

Clement Lam, CEO of Sun Life Hong Kong said, “For nearly 135 years, Sun Life has been helping Clients and communities achieve healthier, brighter futures. We are proud to serve as the Leading Partner of Ride-To-Shine Hong Kong, an initiative that brings communities together through the power of sport while encouraging healthier lifestyles."

"This campaign reflects our long-standing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of our communities. We look forward to rallying the support of residents, families, visitors and stakeholders across Hong Kong to take part in this collective challenge as we strive towards the ambitious goal of cycling 1.2 million kilometers together. By joining forces, we can build a healthier and brighter future while bringing lasting positive impact on our city," he added.
