Star Media Group elevates Lydia Wang to COO

Star Media Group (SMG) has promoted Lydia Wang (pictured) as its new chief operating officer, effective 1 March 2025.

As chief operating officer, Wang's leadership will be instrumental in driving SMG's growth path. This includes strengthening revenue diversification and unlocking new avenues for expansion.

She will also be spearheading innovation, amplify value creation and reinforce SMG's position. Her new role as COO will also encompass her existing responsibilities as chief revenue officer.

Wang has 30 years of experience across the finance, retail, telecommunications, and education industries. The recent 11 years of her career had been dedicated to SMG, first joining the company in 2014 as its general manager.

Wang has since risen through the ranks, taking on the role of deputy senior general manager in 2017 and chief revenue officer and chief business officer in 2018.

As SMG's chief revenue officer, Wang played a key role in driving corporate growth and leading business transformation initiatives, according to a statement seen by A+M.

Additionally, Wang has been serving on the council of Malaysia digital association (MDA) since 2020 and will continue her tenure through 2026, advocating for digital transformation and innovation within the industry.

Prior to joining SMG, Wang had an eight-year stint at Taylor's Education Group where she last held the position of vice president, group institution marketing.

At Taylor's Education Group, Wang also took on the role of vice president of corporate marketing, and senior manager of marketing and communications.

Her previous roles include A&P manager of youth segment at DiGi Telecommunications and A&P manager at Parkson Corporation. She also held roles in companies such as MBF Finance Berhad, MBF Cards Malaysia and Procter & Gamble.

"Wang's appointment underscores SMG's commitment to innovation, operational excellence and business growth, ensuring the group remains at the forefront of an evolving media landscape," said SMG group chief executive officer, Chan Seng Fatt.

According to SMG, her immediate priorities include reinforcing revenue diversification strategies, optimising cost structures and unlocking new growth opportunities in the evolving media landscape. 

“As the media landscape continues to evolve, I look forward to working closely with our talented teams to drive innovation, enhance operational efficiencies and unlock new growth opportunities," said Wang.

“Together, we will build on SMG’s strong legacy, deepen audience engagement and deliver greater value to our stakeholders,” she added.

The new COO role had been introduced as part of SMG's new strategic efforts, and comes after the media group named Chan its group CEO in March last year.

Chan has over 30 years of experience covering various aspects namely external and management auditing, financial management, corporate finance, stockbroking and senior-level operation and general management.
