Pinterest has appointed Snap chief communications officer Julie Henderson as its new VP and chief communications officer, bringing in a senior tech and media comms leader as the platform scales its global advertiser and consumer story.

Henderson will oversee Pinterest’s communications functions across corporate, product, policy, financial, consumer, international and internal communications.

She starts on 13 July and will report to Pinterest CMO Claudine Cheever, while working closely with CEO Bill Ready.

Henderson joins from Snap, where she has served as chief communications officer and member of the executive team. During her time at the company, she helped shape Snap’s narrative as it evolved from a messaging app into a broader technology company spanning advertising, augmented reality, AI, developer technologies and new products.

She has also worked across major public policy and regulatory issues affecting the technology sector, including online safety, youth wellbeing, privacy, platform regulation, competition policy and the responsible development of emerging technologies.

Pinterest CMO Claudine Cheever said Henderson’s experience across complex policy, business transformation and high-stakes corporate narratives made her the right fit for the role.

“Julie is one of the most accomplished communications executives in the industry, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Pinterest,” Cheever said.

“As we continue to scale our platform and deepen our impact for users and advertisers worldwide, her experience navigating complex policy landscapes, major business transformations, and high-stakes narratives makes her exactly the right leader for this moment.”

Before joining Snap, Henderson was chief communications officer at 21st Century Fox, where she led global communications through the company’s acquisition by The Walt Disney Company.

Prior to that, she was chief communications officer at News Corp, where she helped establish the company’s corporate identity following its separation from 21st Century Fox.

Henderson said she was joining Pinterest at an important point in the company’s development.

“I'm excited to be joining Pinterest at such an important time in the company's journey,” Henderson said.

“What drew me to Pinterest was not only the strength of the business and the product, but also the people and the ambition for what comes next. Pinterest has an incredible opportunity ahead, and I feel very fortunate to have the chance to help tell that story. I can't wait to get started.”

Earlier in her career, Henderson held leadership roles spanning communications and corporate strategy at News Corp, and led the digital practice at MPRM Public Relations.
