Nine reshapes leadership as it unifies Stan, 9Now and Channel 9

Nine has announced a leadership restructure across its streaming and broadcast division, marking a major step in the media company's long-term transformation strategy and the formal integration of Stan, 9Now and Channel 9 operations.

The announcement sees the end of Dan Taylor’s acting stint at Stan, with his appointment as executive director now confirmed. It also introduces new group-wide executive roles, while redefining responsibilities across content, marketing, strategy and state leadership.

The changes, which take effect from 1 July, come under the leadership of Amanda Laing, who was appointed managing director, streaming and broadcast in January. They are part of Nine’s broader Nine2028 program and follow the introduction of a new “group operating model” aimed at unlocking synergies between its free and subscription-based platforms.

Under the new structure, three executives will hold full P+L accountability across key business areas.

Hamish Turner becomes executive director for Channel 9, 9 multi-channels and 9Now. Dan Taylor takes on the role of executive director at Stan, while Tom Malone continues as managing director of radio, which will operate as it does today.

Michael Healy will lead content strategy across all entertainment formats as executive director - entertainment, extending his purview to both free and subscription content for the first time. Cailah Scobie has been appointed executive director - entertainment content acquisitions, bringing her deep licensing and deal-making experience to both ad-funded and subscription models.

In news and current affairs, Fiona Dear continues to lead a key part of Nine’s editorial identity, with ongoing responsibility for the 9News transformation. In sport, a significant consolidation effort will bring production teams from Wide World of Sports and Stan Sport under Brent Williams, with Laing herself leading a group-wide strategy program to identify further commercial opportunities.

Nine will also begin the recruitment process for two newly created roles - a chief strategy officer – streaming and broadcast and a chief marketing officer – streaming and broadcast role to unify brand and performance efforts across all platforms.

State managing directors Kylie Blucher (QLD), Clive Bingwa (WA) and Sean O’Brien (SA) will now report to Laing, enabling closer alignment of local and national initiatives across the division.

“There is immense opportunity to drive growth for the Nine Group and strong momentum already underway,” Laing said. “While Nine’s streaming and broadcast brands have enjoyed independent success, our strength lies in the power of the Nine Group and today’s changes are the first step in unlocking that potential. We’re lucky enough to have some of the industry’s top talent and I’m excited to leverage their experience across our streaming and broadcast brands.”

The restructuring signals a shift in how Nine views its content and platform strategy, no longer separating linear and digital, but treating them as a single ecosystem.

With new revenue pressures and audience fragmentation shaping the future of television, the move positions Nine to deliver more unified content experiences and drive growth across advertising, subscriptions and rights partnerships.
