Mastercard enters its microdrama era

Mastercard is turning payment safety into a K-drama, with a new three-episode microdrama rolling out across six Southeast Asian markets.
Created with McCann Singapore, "Tap into my heart" will run across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines over eight weeks, with supporting short-form content on TikTok, Meta and YouTube.
The series uses familiar K-drama tropes, emotional storylines and relatable everyday situations to weave payment safety and security messages into the narrative, rather than presenting them as traditional consumer education.

The campaign comes as Mastercard looks to make payment security more relevant to consumers amid the growing use of digital payments, while tapping into the popularity of Korean entertainment and microdramas across Asia.
The first episode of "Tap into my heart" is now available on YouTube, with subsequent episodes and supporting short-form content rolling out over the eight-week campaign.
According to Mastercard, the 2026 Overseas Hallyu Survey found that audiences across 30 countries spend an average of 14.7 hours a month consuming Korean content, with much of it discovered through social media and mobile-first platforms. Microdramas have also gained traction across Asia, driven by short episodes, emotional storytelling and formats designed for social sharing.
Dheeraj Raina, senior vice president, head of integrated marketing and communications, Southeast Asia, Mastercard, said the company wanted to move away from conventional awareness campaigns that consumers could easily tune out.
“Rather than asking consumers to pay attention to another awareness campaign, we looked at the stories, entertainment, and cultural moments they already engage with,” he said.
Dan Parmenter, creative director at McCann Singapore, said K-drama's use of heightened emotion, suspicion, misdirection and romantic drama made it a natural fit for exploring the anxieties consumers can experience around fraud and payment security.
The series was directed by a Korean director and features Korean actors, with Mastercard's security features incorporated into the storyline rather than presented separately as brand messages.
"Tap into my heart" follows Mastercard's broader push to explore entertainment and emerging technologies as vehicles for consumer education. Earlier this year, the brand worked with Sticky Monster Lab on "Protected monsters", which used AI-powered motion capture, creator-led storytelling and digital content to bring payment safety concepts to life through everyday scenarios.
