The advertising industry is a rapidly shifting realm where emerging trends, technologies, and creative ideas come together to reshape how brands communicate with their audiences. As the landscape evolves, it’s crucial for those driving it to stay ahead of the curve—embracing change, exploring new possibilities, and challenging the status quo.

While female leaders are steadily rising to the top, there's still much work to be done to accelerate gender equality and ensure that every voice has an opportunity to be heard. This International Women's Day, A+M celebrates the voices of women who are making waves in Malaysia's creative and advertising landscape, breaking barriers and paving the way for the future generation of leaders.

Hear from Yee Hui Tsin, chief executive officer of TBWA\KL, on what she has to say:

A+M: How do you define leadership, and how do you believe women bring a unique perspective to leadership roles?

Yee: Leadership is about guiding with example, empathy, and generosity.

Women often excel as leaders because of our capacity for vulnerability, our willingness to trust our instincts, and our ability to channel emotions into empowering and encouraging those around us to succeed.

A+M: What were some of the most significant challenges you've faced as a woman in the industry, and how did you overcome them?

Yee: Securing a meaningful voice at the industry table required persistence and strategy. I made a conscious decision to raise my hand and embrace the right opportunities when they appeared. Success came through consistency in my actions, maintaining authenticity, and finding joy throughout the journey, even through challenging moments.

A+M: What is one bold step you are hoping to take, to 'accelerate action' in the industry?

Yee: Creating an environment where diverse perspectives will lead the next generation of creatives. As part of TBWA Malaysia's commitment as a 30% Club Malaysia Corporate Advocate, we are working to break barriers through meaningful collaboration. I truly believe that by strengthening partnerships between clients and agencies built around driving commercial creativity, Malaysia can truly shine.

A+M: What advice would you give to women starting their careers in the industry who want to make a meaningful impact and stand out?

Yee: I urge you to envision the leader you aspire to become, then commit to embodying those qualities every day without fear.

True leadership is about doing what's right for the people you lead and guide and creating spaces where everyone can contribute safely towards their best work.
