Island Shangri-La targets cross-border travellers with 'twin-city' push

Island Shangri-La has launched a new cross-border luxury campaign headlined by the “Twice the wonder journey.” The premium, twin-city experience aims to offer travellers a hassle-free, connected itinerary between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, backed by bespoke add-on services and Shangri-La’s signature Asian hospitality.
The campaign debuts at a time of accelerating inbound travel to the Chinese Mainland, fueled by expanded visa facilitation measures. According to the National Immigration Administration, over 30 million foreign entries to the Chinese Mainland were recorded under visa-free policies in 2025—a nearly 50% year-on-year increase.
The launch also taps into the growing global trend of “detour destinations,” where international travellers leverage destinations such as Hong Kong as a gateway to explore adjacent, innovation-led hubs such as Shenzhen.
Currently, travellers from 50 countries (including the UK, Singapore, and South Korea) enjoy 30-day visa-free entry into the Chinese Mainland, while travellers from 55 countries (including the US and Australia) benefit from the 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit scheme.
Going far beyond standard accommodations, the "Twice the wonder journey" offers a truly turnkey solution for modern travelers. Shangri-La provides private, door-to-door cross-border transfers with on-the-ground support and bespoke itinerary planning, enabling smooth discovery across both destinations.
The initiative invites discerning travellers to explore the distinct yet complementary heritage of two of Asia’s most dynamic cities through three of Shangri-La’s premier properties.
For example, rising above Hong Kong's shopping and business district, Island Shangri-La serves as a refined sanctuary at the heart of the city. It is positioned for pairing a day of discovery at the historic Tai Kwun or the avant-garde West Kowloon Cultural District with restorative comfort and exceptional culinary experiences.
Guests can savour exquisite Cantonese cuisine at the one-Michelin-starred Summer Palace, toast the skyline at the one-Michelin-starred Restaurant Petrus, or unwind with holistic rituals at YUN WELLNESS. For families, a dedicated 45th floor features imaginative themed suites.
Across the border, Shenzhen beautifully blends deep cultural roots with modern creativity. Shangri-La Nanshan, Shenzhen offers a contemporary urban luxury resort experience that is ideally situated for exploring Nantou Ancient City and the creative energy of OCT-LOFT, with standout dining highlights including Shang Palace and Café 66.
Together with Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen, these two hotels aim to support smooth, productive itineraries for business travellers while inviting leisure guests to pair Hong Kong’s harbor icons with Shenzhen’s art districts and tech-forward city experiences.
Designed for both executives and leisure travellers, the package ensures each twin-city stay feels seamless and deeply rewarding. Guests who book the offer will earn Shangri-La Circle points and enjoy pre-arrival curation, room personalisation, and private cross-border transit arrangements.
By providing tailored itineraries to ease every step - from transportation coordination to digital payment app setup and local experience recommendations - Shangri-La aims to ensure a truly carefree, peace-of-mind journey where guests can focus entirely on discovery rather than logistics.
