HKJC unites horse racing and rugby in new sports experience

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has partnered with Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) and the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) to bring together horse racing and rugby for the first time, highlighting the city’s world-class sport and entertainment and strong community spirit.
This comes as the two iconic sports have been rooted in Hong Kong for over 100 years. Their success on the international stage has brought pride to the city and attracted fans and tourists from around the world. The “Racing with rugby” (賽馬 × 欖球) campaign aims to offer the public the chance to experience Hong Kong’s two world-class sports in one celebration, reinforcing the city’s position as Asia’s events capital.
The campaign will be launched at a special ceremony in the Parade Ring at Sha Tin Racecourse on 12 April. A highlight will be the announcement of the line-up for the Hong Kong China men’s and women’s Rugby Sevens teams. This will be followed by a day of horse racing and entertainment, with opportunities to meet and greet rugby stars.
Furthermore, a rugby-themed Happy Wednesday will take place at Happy Valley Racecourse on 15 April. For the first time, the race night party will mark Rugby Week, coinciding with the HKFC 10s, the world’s premier 10-a-side competition hosted by HKFC in Happy Valley from 14 to 16 April. Sports fans can watch a day of rugby, then head to the racecourse for Hong Kong’s night races. Singer Jason Donovan and music group BABBA are scheduled to perform.
Ahead of the Hong Kong Sevens, racing and rugby fans will also be able to purchase Hong Kong, China jerseys and rugby merchandise at specific locations in Sha Tin Racecourse on 12 April and Happy Valley Racecourse on 15 April.
For community engagement, the HKJC is extending its long-running role as official community partner of the Hong Kong Sevens to the HKFC 10s this year. Its volunteer team will run a booth in the Hong Kong Sevens fan village from 17 to 19 April at Kai Tak Stadium, and at the HKFC 10s from 14 to 16 April at the Hong Kong Football Club, with sports and interactive activities for fans.
The HKJC has expanded its Hong Kong Sevens booth, where its volunteer team will perform live on stage. It will also support outreach programmes and youth rugby competitions, and provide tickets to students, the elderly, and the underprivileged.
