HK to host its first Star Wars night run this May at Whampoa

Hong Kong will host its first Star Wars-themed night run in May, transforming the Whampoa Waterfront into a new experience for fans, expecting to attract thousands of participants in costume as beloved characters from the film saga.

The event comes as Star Wars is celebrated globally each year on 4 May — a play on the iconic Jedi line “May the Force be with you,” hence “May the 4th be with you.” While many cities stage large-scale celebrations, Hong Kong has yet to see events of the same scale.

With the new movie Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu due for release this year, the event aims to revive the Star Wars run in Hong Kong so local fans can celebrate alongside the global community. The organisers’ ultimate goal is to make the Star Wars night run an annual, iconic celebration in the city.

Launching on 1 May, the Star Wars Night Run Hong Kong 2026 is organised by event agency Knighthood Event, which has partnered with various IPs to deliver a range of event formats. The event targets Star Wars fans of all nationalities and ages, the night run features a 1km cosplay category and a 2km individual category. Both distances are suitable for participants of any age and require no prior sports experience.

The cosplay category invites devoted fans to showcase props such as lightsabers and helmets, and to share cosplay tips and collectibles with fellow attendees during the event.

To echo the Star Wars franchise, the organiser will hold the night run event in the evening, hoping that participants will feel as if they are in the galaxy of Star Wars. They are welcome to bring along with their gears and collections to experience an unprecedented night run atmosphere.

The exclusive runner’s pack including several limited-edition items for fans is another highlights of the event. Unlike the runners pack used in other running events, the organiser has opted for cloak instead of t-shirt this time, allowing participants to dress up as Star Wars characters and connect with the galaxy theme.

The organiser has highlighted other items, notably the finisher medal, which includes glow‑in‑the‑dark elements so participants can take memorable photos with their glowing medals at night.

Knowing a number of Star Wars fans are keen on limited‑edition fashion, the event has partnered with local brand GROCERY to launch an event‑exclusive T‑shirt. The washed fabric features classic battle scenes.

To promote the event, official social media accounts of the event are set up to share event information and promote our event. It has invited models wearing the gear from the runners pack to simulate the outfit and atmosphere of the event day. By unboxing the runner’s pack and continuously advertising from lifestyle media, the organiser believes that it can increase fans’ interest in signing up.

The event will measure ROI using both financial and performance metrics to assess overall effectiveness. While it will put the Star Wars brand back in the spotlight and generate excitement around the new movie, organisers will use the insights gained to optimise future Star Wars activations in Hong Kong.
