The newly opened Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP) has welcomed more than 60 AI-driven companies from overseas, Mainland China, and Hong Kong, marking a strong start for the cross-border innovation hub.
According to Kevin Choi, permanent secretary for innovation, technology and industry, around 50% of the resident companies focus on artificial intelligence and data science, while 40% specialise in life and health technologies, microelectronics, and new energy.
The park’s first phase includes the completion of three buildings—two wet laboratories and a talent residence. These facilities have already attracted 60 enterprises, reaching an 80% occupancy rate, with 25% of the tenants coming from overseas. The remaining are from the Mainland and Hong Kong. Choi added that occupancy is expected to rise to 90% by Q1 2026.
Located in the Lok Ma Chau Loop and spanning 87 hectares, HSITP is positioned as a vital link between Hong Kong, the Mainland, and international markets, promoting high-quality economic development.
This initiative also aligns with chief executive John Lee’s latest Policy Address, which emphasises support for the park’s development. The Hong Kong portion of the park will be developed in two phases, progressing from west to east.
As outlined in its development plan, the park will offer comprehensive support facilities tailored to the needs of diverse talent groups—including accommodation, hotels, serviced apartments, international schools, and childcare services—to foster a vibrant live-work community.
Additionally, a smart community platform will be launched to streamline access to information and services related to leisure, transport, and community activities, aiming to enhance the quality of life, attract and retain talent, and build a strong sense of belonging.
The park also plans to implement flexible talent attraction measures, working with stakeholders to establish dedicated service centres—both online and on-site—to support cross-border talent exchange and career development in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
