Commonwealth Bank has signed on as a founding partner and official bank of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, becoming the first domestic sponsor of the event.

The deal gives the bank a broad suite of rights spanning the Games, the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia, as well as the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams.

It marks a long-term commercial and brand play, with CommBank positioning itself across multiple layers of the Games ecosystem — from athletes and grassroots sport through to small business and community engagement.

Matt Comyn, CEO of Commonwealth Bank, said the partnership reflects the scale of opportunity tied to a home Games.

“Events like our home Olympic and Paralympic Games create real momentum for communities and meaningful opportunities for local businesses and the broader economy,” he said.

Brisbane 2032 is expected to drive significant economic activity, with earlier analysis estimating up to $17.6 billion in national benefit and $8.1 billion for Queensland over a 20-year period.

The Games are also projected to support more than 120,000 jobs across construction, tourism, hospitality and event delivery.

Andrew Liveris, president of the Brisbane 2032 organising committee, said the deal signals early confidence from major Australian brands.

“CommBank’s commitment to partner with us long-term shows their clear intent to support our athletes, businesses and nation,” he said.

Beyond brand exposure, CommBank’s role will extend into education and capability building, including support for local businesses through the Brisbane 2032 supplier portal, as well as investment in youth participation and community initiatives.

The move builds on the bank’s long-standing involvement in Australian sport and positions it at the centre of one of the country’s largest upcoming national events, as brands begin locking in partnerships ahead of the next decade.
