Telkomsel pushes further into the content streaming game with CJ ENM partnership

South Korean entertainment firm CJ ENM Hong Kong and Telkomsel have partnered to launch tvN and tvN Movies linear channels on MAXstream, the telco's one-stop video service app. The partnership taps on Telkomsel’s mobile market share of 162 million customers to expand presence in Southeast Asia and brings the complete suite of Korean entertainment to the mass audience in Indonesia.
Access to tvN and tvN Movies channels is available to Telkomsel customers through their active data packages including “pay as you use” data with no additional cost. MAXstream features local and international TV channels, video-on-demand including films and series, as well as own original contents across genres. With tvN and tvN Movies now available on MAXstream, users can expect additional premium content such as top dramas, variety shows music shows and blockbusters from Korea. Michael Jung, MD of CJ ENM HK said the company had seen tremendous successes from its partnerships with telecommunication and OTT platforms in the region, and was working closely to partner more who were looking to expand in the OTT space. “In Indonesia, this new mobile penetration will ensure our brands can be easily accessed by the widest pool of audience. Fans all over Indonesia can now enjoy premium Korean contents from tvN and tvN Movies channels anytime, anywhere with MAXstream,” Jung added.
Meanwhile, Rachel Goh, marketing director of Telkomsel said the company was committed to consistently providing customer-centric digital products and services and the partnership would further accommodate the needs and demands of its customers.
“Korean entertainments have been one of the popular contents in Indonesia and on the other side, tvN and tvN Movies is renowned for its blockbuster and award-winning Korean entertainments and other trend setter contents. I believe both channels would significantly increase our customers’ experience in enjoying MAXstream and further enrich Telkomsel’s digital lifestyle ecosystem,” Goh added. The telco also recently tied up with The Walt Disney Company to launch its streaming service Disney+ Hotstar to Indonesia in September.
Separately, CJ ENM HK tied up with iQIYI International recently to bring subscription video on demand service (SVOD) tvN Movies to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam from 8 August. As part of the partnership, tvN Movies will provide a roster of first run movies every month based on viewership intel from iQIYI International, complete with marketing activities to engage the users.
