Riding the wave of popularity surrounding the beloved manga character Chiikawa, the Japanese themed ramen restaurant “Chiikawa Ramen Buta” (ちいかわラーメン 豚) is set to make its overseas debut in Hong Kong on 16 August.

First launching in Japan in March 2024 and soon expanding to three more branches across the country, the restaurant features the popular “Ro” series menu from the Chiikawa manga. It marks the brand’s first overseas footprint, offering local fans a chance to connect more closely with the characters. Additionally, it will be hosted by local dining group Flames Concepts, with 87 seats, making it the largest “Chiikawa Ramen Buta” branch to date.

Located at Langham Place, Mong Kok, the Hong Kong branch draws inspiration from the manga, offering diners an immersive experience blending whimsical storytelling and authentic Japanese flavours. The space features life-sized sculptures of three central characters: Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi, alongside character illustrations and decorations, allowing every visitor to personally experience the healing world of CHIIKAWA.

“Chiikawa Ramen Buta Hong Kong” serves authentic signature ramen made with ingredients and broth imported directly from Japan, recreating a flavour that is close to the spirit of its original stores, according to the release. Guests can choose from three ramen sizes: Chiikawa (mini), Hachiware (small), and Usagi (large). Each bowl of ramen is topped with a cute character fish cake and comes with a complimentary character-themed sticker.

Meanwhile, drinks are served in Chiikawa-themed containers, customers can take bottled drinks home as souvenirs. Additionally, each beverage also comes with a randomly distributed character-themed transparent card, making it a highly collectible item for fans.

In addition to ramen and drinks, the restaurant will launch a series of merchandise, including ramen bowls, beer glasses, water glasses, face towels, wristbands, Tshirts, logo stickers, ramen spoons, and melamine plates.

Notably, the Hong Kong store will be based on the “reservation operation model” in Japan, which ensures that every customer has a comfortable and well-organised dining experience. The first round of reservations opens on Thursday (7 August) at 1pm via KKDAY; the initial booking period will cover dates from 16 August to 15 September.

Guests will need to select their preferred timeslot and number of diners on KKDAY, and will be required to pre-purchase one bottle of Black Oolong Tea per person at HK$38 as a deposit. The tea will be distributed on the day of the visit, and the deposit cannot be used to offset the meal cost.
