Canon urges creators to see the world differently

Canon is encouraging creators to break out of creative routines with its latest campaign, “Created to explore”, built around the idea of seeing familiar surroundings in new ways.

The campaign accompanies the Singapore launch of the EOS R8 Mark II and positions the camera as a creative tool for experimentation, rather than simply an upgrade for existing photography enthusiasts. Canon is targeting a broader generation of visual storytellers, including social-first creators and those looking to explore photography and video through a more intuitive approach.

“Created to explore” centres on experimentation, with the EOS R8 Mark II offering built-in creative functions that allow users to play with colour, visual effects and cinematic looks directly in-camera. The approach is intended to make creative exploration more accessible, allowing users to experiment with different visual styles without relying heavily on post-production.

The campaign comes to life in a short film following two photographers as they roam Singapore in search of fresh perspectives. From wet markets to old-school malls, the pair photograph the city’s everyday sights before revealing their shots at the end of the film, showing how the same surroundings can be transformed through a different lens.

The launch also marks a shift in how Canon is presenting its more accessible EOS R series, combining a contemporary design with creative tools from across the range.

“The launch of the EOS R8 Mark II marks an exciting shift in how we approach camera design and usability for the next generation of visual storytellers," said Too Kok Yong, head of Singapore operations group at Canon Singapore.

“By pairing a contemporary form factor with intuitively powerful creative features, ranging from in-camera colour filters to advanced stabilisation, we are giving creators the tools to elevate their craft right out of the box. Building on our campaign tagline, ‘Created to explore,’ the EOS R8 Mark II aims to inspire users to break away from routine, experiment with new visual styles, and see the world through a completely fresh lens.”

The launch builds on Canon Singapore’s focus on connecting with younger audiences through creativity and self-expression. Its #iamkyosei campaign explored the perspectives and aspirations of digitally native youth through Canon’s Kyosei philosophy, which centres on living and working together for the common good. The campaign also included initiatives with the Photographic Society of National University of Singapore, giving young creatives opportunities to explore their craft and showcase their work.

The latest “Created to explore” campaign continues that focus on creativity, but places experimentation at the centre of the product proposition. Rather than positioning the EOS R8 Mark II solely around technical performance, Canon is framing the camera as a tool for a new generation of visual storytellers to develop their own style and see the world differently.
