Brains and brawn: Thrifty recruits strongman and Tetris champion to tackle moving day

Thrifty is pairing Australia's strongest man and a Tetris champion to make moving a little easier for some Sydney residents.

The rental company has recruited 2026 Australia's strongest man Bradman Houston and Australian Tetris champion Fura for its new Moving Champs campaign, which will see the pair help Sydney residents move house from 16 to 18 October.

Houston will take care of the heavy lifting, while Fura puts their puzzle-solving skills to work packing everything into the truck.

The campaign follows Thrifty research showing 62% of recent movers have struggled to fit their belongings into a vehicle, while 37% have injured themselves during a move. Half also reported a moving-day argument that caused lasting tension.

“Most people aren't Australia's Strongest Man or a Tetris champion, and they don't need to be,” Thrifty APAC vice president Damien Shaw said.

“Moving doesn't have to be the most stressful thing you do all year. With the right size Thrifty truck, a bit of planning and a few tips from experts, it's a lot more doable than people think.”

Developed by CampaignLab, the activation will see Houston and Fura join a professional removal crew for selected household moves, with Thrifty providing the truck and moving service free of charge.

The campaign will also run across social, influencer marketing, PR and paid media, with lifting and packing tips shared online. Sydney residents can apply for the service through Thrifty's Moving Champs website.
