Just a week ago, Amanda Laing was celebrating Nine's ambitious plans for 2027, describing the media group's upfront as “bold, high voltage, authentic” and declaring that the year ahead was “going to be huge”.

Now, the executive who oversaw Channel Nine, 9Now and Stan is departing the business after less than two years in the role.

Laing's exit comes just days after Nine unveiled its Sofa to Street strategy, bringing its television, streaming, publishing and newly acquired outdoor assets together in a pitch to advertisers. Her departure is understood to be connected to a restructure at Nine.

Laing reported directly to chief executive Matt Stanton and was responsible for the group's broadcast and streaming operations.

The exit comes a week after Nine's 2027 upfront, where the company outlined plans to bring its television, streaming, publishing and newly acquired outdoor business closer together under its Sofa to Street strategy.

Laing had been central to the group's push to connect its broadcast and streaming operations, including extending established television franchises across its platforms. The 2027 slate includes new Stan formats built around The Block and Love Island Australia.

Her departure also follows a challenging period for Nine's television business. The group has made cuts in response to declining advertising revenue and, in its latest annual results, recorded a $426 million writedown of its Total TV business, reducing its carrying value to approximately $360 million.

During Laing's tenure, Nine also secured a new agreement to retain its NRL broadcast rights.

Laing returned to Nine in 2025 after holding senior positions at Foxtel Group, including chief commercial and content officer and managing director of Binge. She had previously served as Nine's group general counsel and sat on the Australian Rugby League Commission.
