AirAsia is bringing fitness enthusiasts closer to the action at AirAsia HYROX Chiba in Japan this weekend, rolling out an immersive brand activation featuring exclusive merchandise, interactive challenges, and appearances by the newly minted "AirAsia Dream Team".
The activation builds on the airline’s regional partnership with HYROX APAC, championing its signature “Dare to dream” ethos while connecting the region's rapidly expanding fitness community.
A centrepiece of the race weekend is the debut of the "AirAsia Dream Team", featuring Netflix’s Physical: Asia stars Katsumi Nakamura (Japan) and Justin Coveney (Philippines). Competing in the Men’s Pro Doubles category, the duo will also hold a fan meet-and-greet at the AirAsia booth on 8 August.
In conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Maryanna Kim, chief brand and communications officer, AirAsia Next said AirAsia is widely known and loved for its “Dare to dream” spirit and for resilience, as is HYROX. "We felt the Physical: Asia stars Katsumi Nakamura and Justin Coveney were a natural fit because they embody these qualities and for determination to constantly push beyond their limits."
"Bringing together a Japanese Olympic swimmer and a Filipino athlete into one unified 'AirAsia Dream Team' isn't just about athletic performance; it’s a living representation of our network. AirAsia bridges borders across Asean and Northeast Asia, and this pair visually and culturally showcases how sports and travel connect diverse communities," Kim added.
While AirAsia's network spans over 130 destinations across Asean and East Asia, there is a perfect strategic overlap with HYROX footprint, Kim said. "And we see HYROX as more than a race but rather a fast-growing community that reflects how people travel today. More people are travelling for experiences, passions and communities, not just destinations. As AirAsia evolves into a broader travel and lifestyle ecosystem, partnering with HYROX allows us to connect with these travellers in meaningful ways across the region."

Athletes and supporters alike who visit the AirAsia Athlete Pit Stop booth can enjoy a range of experiences including the AirAsia Grip Challenge, custom keychain creation, temporary tattoos applied by AirAsia cabin crew, photo opportunities, daily flight giveaways and exclusive merchandise.
There will also be the limited-edition AirAsia HYROX Chiba destination patch, which can be redeemed by simply presenting any AirAsia flight boarding pass from any journey taken in 2026 within the AirAsia MOVE app, while stocks last.

Whether racing for a personal best, cheering from the sidelines or discovering HYROX for the first time, athletes, supporters and fitness enthusiasts are invited to visit the AirAsia booth throughout AirAsia HYROX Chiba and experience the energy of one of the world's fastest-growing fitness communities up close.
Meanwhile, the campaign's success is measured beyond brand visibility. "We look at participation across our activations, engagement with our experiences, merchandise redemptions, social and media impact, and ultimately how the partnership strengthens brand affinity and encourages travellers to choose AirAsia as part of their fitness and travel journey," Kim said.
The campaign is amplified across AirAsia's owned channels, HYROX platforms, digital and social media, PR, event activations and the AirAsia MOVE app, creating multiple touchpoints throughout the customer journey.
Kim added, "It’s evident that HYROX has a passionate community following who are united by resilience, determination and the pursuit of excellence. That energy and ‘Dare to dream’ spirit resonates deeply with the AirAsia brand."
"Every race begins with a journey, and we're proud to connect athletes and supporters across Asia Pacific to these incredible energetic events. Through our partnership, we're creating experiences that go beyond travel, from exclusive merchandise and athlete meet-and-greets to unforgettable moments that celebrate the community at the heart of HYROX," Kim added.
AirAsia’s activation reflects a broader global shift toward active lifestyles. According to ABC Fitness' Q1 Wellness Watch Report, 76% of global consumers now identify as physically active - a 10% jump since 2021 - with fitness facilities recording 106 million check-ins and 1.9 million new joins in January 2025 alone.
Renowned for its inclusive, global format, HYROX recorded nearly 900,000 race finishers across 80+ events in 2025, with projections estimating 1.2 million athletes across 100+ races for the 2025/26 season. Last year's HYROX event in Singapore pulled a record crowd of 12,000 to the National Stadium, underlining how fitness racing has evolved into a powerful social and lifestyle movement.
By tapping into this phenomenon, AirAsia joins major regional players such as AIA Hong Kong and Standard Chartered in leveraging high-energy endurance events to build community connection and promote long-term wellness.
