DDB Group Sydney has named Caroline Gilroy as its head of design, bringing more than two decades of global brand and advertising design experience to the agency.

Gilroy joins from Howatson+Company, where she built and led the design team from the agency’s inception. Her career spans senior roles in Sydney, London, New York and Melbourne, with past credits including CommBank’s refreshed diamond logo and the black-and-yellow identity for OzHarvest. She also played a key role in campaigns such as “Tasmania – Come Down for Air” and has led branding work for Lendlease, Sydney’s MLC Centre, and the Australian Society of Authors.

Gilroy has been recognised with awards and previously held positions at Re, M&C Saatchi, Studio Round and SouthSouthWest.

“Caroline's appointment is a key addition to our creative leadership team,” Matt Chandler, chief creative officer at DDB Group Sydney, said. “Building a strong culture of design and a deeper commitment to craft, will lift everything we do across the group. We're very fortunate to have Caroline join us in this role.”

Gilroy said the opportunity to lead the design team at DDB was “a dream role and an absolute privilege”.

“DDB is such a powerhouse in the industry, and I’m so excited to be part of an organisation that truly values craft,” she said.

Gilroy’s appointment is effective immediately.
