April Fool’s Day is the ultimate playground for brands to unleash their creativity, sprinkle in some humor, and think way outside the box. Just last week, Lipton caused an uproar with an early prank, sharing the devastating news that it would be discontinuing its iconic peach-flavored ice tea.

From hilarious fake product launches to jaw-dropping pranks that take the internet by storm, companies use this day to surprise, delight, and keep fans on their toes. While still early, these are some of the most interesting April Fool's campaigns we have seen in Singapore and Malaysia this year.

Don't miss: 10 April Fool's Day 2024 posts we loved from Singapore brands

1. Duolingo

Duolingo has kicked off the April Fool's Day shenanigans strong with a five-year long cruise. Sail across seven continents, explore 195 countries, and learn over 40 languages, all while enjoying premium dining and entertainment.

"Get ready for a vacation where the fun never ends," Duolingo said in an Instagram post.

2. Dyson Singapore

Dyson Singapore has joined in on the April Fool's Day fun with its own "airbrow", a styling round brush designed to elevate your brow game to aerodynamic perfection.

3. KOI Thé Singapore

Bubble tea chain KOI Thé Singapore has dropped the world's "healthiest milk tea ever". Last week, the beverage chain teased the "100%" healthy drink on its Instagram page, sharing a picture of the thirst-quenching drop in front of Singapore's Merlion.

Days leading up to April Fool's Day, KOI unveiled a humourous video of one of its baristas making the drink, revealing that it was made from 100% water.

4. Luckin Coffee Singapore

Another beverage brand has joined in on the April Fool's Day fun. Luckin Coffee Singapore unveiled its cheeky challenge for fans, prompting them to pause and screenshot a picture of a cup when it is perfectly aligned with an outline for a chance to win free coffee credits.

However, the video is designed for the challenge to be impossible to complete, leaving fans bamboozled.

5. Meiji Singapore

You've heard of Meiji's iconic Yan Yan boy. Now, the snack brand has unveiled Yan Yan man, the all-grown-up snack for all-grown-up men. In an Instagram post on April Fool's Day, Meiji shared the puzzling "cookie musk" flavour with its fans.

6. Popeye's

Last Tuesday (25 March), Popeye's took to Instagram to share its mind-boggling April Fool's joke (or at least we hope it is). The fried chicken company unveiled its pickle-flavoured lemonade in a short video clip, leaving fans wondering if it was going to be a permanent menu item.

7. Porsche Singapore

Luxury car brand Porsche has ridden in on the April Fool's Day fun with its own spin on miniature collectibles. The "911 Dakar blind box" collection features Porsche models in colours inspired by Singapore cuisine, including chicken rice and butter chicken amongst others.

The humorous campaign aims to highlight the brand's real-world commitment to personalisation.

8. Sour Patch Kids

This year, Sour Patch Kids had enough of complaints from customers regarding the lack of sourness of its popular candy. The brand unveiled that it was stripping "sour" from its name, going by "Patch Kids" for the foreseeable future.

"You never realise what you have until it's sour then sweet then gone," Sour Patch Kids said in an Instagram post.

9. VivoCity

Singapore's VivoCity took its April Fool's Day prank to new heights with Singapore's first rooftop rollercoaster. In an Instagram post, the shopping mall prompted visitors to "shop, scream and repeat" for one day only.

10. Yahoo

Let's face it, we're all a bit chronically online these days, right? Between the seemingly endless meetings, video calls, and the irresistible social media scrolling, it’s good to take a break sometimes…

This April Fool's Day, Yahoo has got you covered with its newest "groundbreaking" product", the grass-covered keyboard "agricultural interface", designed to help people "touch grass" without leaving their desks.
