Uber has ramped up support for cross-border travel between Hong Kong and Macau ahead of the National Day Golden Week, slashing limousine booking times and rolling out a WeChat mini programme for mainland travellers.
This comes six months after Uber's launch, aiming to deliver a seamless smart ride experience for local residents and travellers across Hong Kong and Macau through its premium and convenient ride options.
With the National Day Golden Week holiday approaching, coupled with highly anticipated international sports and entertainment events such as the 73rd Macau Grand Prix rolling out across the city, a new wave of travel enthusiasm is expected to sweep Macau.
To capture this momentum, Uber has unveiled a series of brand-new features and user incentives, including the official launch of the WeChat mini programme for Macau. This initiative aims to create a seamless, end-to-end ride experience for Mainland travellers, providing the most flexible mobility options to support Macau through its biggest tourism and event peak in recent years, while continuously supporting the development of Macau’s local community economy and tourism sector.
Visitors from Mainland China can now access Uber mini programme inside the WeChat app using their WeChat credentials without downloading or switching apps, enjoying full support for WeChat Pay, linked bank cards, or digital cash balances, drastically simplifying the user journey for mainland China visitors.
Uber has specifically tailored the "Hong Kong - Macau intercity limousine" point-to-point private car trip option for riders frequently commuting between the two destinations. To enhance flexibility, Uber and its fleet partner previously optimised and shortened the reservation advance booking window from 24 hours to a minimum of eight hours prior to departure.
This optimisation seeks to unlock "spontaneous travel" demands, allowing riders to effortlessly take trips between major hotels in Macau, Hong Kong International Airport, and key border ports. The intercity limousine operates on a fixed-price model, with all surcharges included and up to 30 minutes of complimentary wait time.
To allow more residents and tourists to experience the convenience of seamless rides, Uber is currently launching a trial ride promotion: all users can enjoy a 90% discount on one Uber Meter Taxi ride within Macau using a promotion code.
Estyn Chung, general manager of Uber Hong Kong, said: "Over the past six months, Uber's robust growth in Macau has proven the immense value of seamless mobility in driving cross-border tourism and the local economy. With peak travel seasons such as the National Day Golden Week and the Grand Prix fast approaching, our introduction of the 'WeChat mini programme' is designed to offer a more seamless and convenient experience for the vast number of Mainland travellers.”
Currently, residents and visitors in Macau can select the “Meter Taxi” ride option via the Uber app. Riders can use the app to book licensed Macau taxis, with fares calculated according to the official taxi meter. Partnering with local, high-quality metered taxi drivers in Macau, with close to a four-digit number of drivers on average maintaining high monthly activity and fulfilling trips through the Uber app. Fares comply fully with local regulations, calculated strictly according to the amount displayed on the taxi meter, and payments are processed digitally.
Based on average data from February to August 2026, while Hong Kong accounts for the largest share of Macau's Uber riders, the remaining top six source markets span both regional and global destinations: Taiwan, the US, South Korea, Mainland China, Japan, and the UK. As an international leisure and tourism hub, Macau’s event economy shares a mutually reinforcing relationship with mobility demand. Uber data shows that whenever Macau hosts a major concert or international mega-event, taxi demand spikes rapidly.
“We will continue to deeply anchor our presence to serve Hong Kong, Macau, and the broader Greater Bay Area, utilising technology to empower local mobility, walk hand-in-hand with the local taxi industry and tourism sector, and collectively seize the infinite opportunities brought forth by the event economy,” Chung said.
