UA Finance taps former child star Eric Cheng to hype armwrestling championship

UA Finance is sponsoring the Hong Kong International Armwrestling Championship 2025, adding a dynamic touch to the event with former child star Eric Cheng (pictured right) featured in its promotional campaign.

Cheng shot to fame after starring the classic 2001 government commercial for the Social Welfare Department, which includes the memorable line, "Just when I was about to play ball, it started to rain. Is even the weather against me?” (打波先嚟落雨, 唔通連個天都唔鍾意我呀?).“

Organised by the Hong Kong ArmWrestling Association and recognised by the International Federation of Armwrestling (IFA), the championship will be held on 11 October at Mira Place, Tsim Sha Tsui. It aims to raise awareness, attract new fans, and further develop the armwrestling movement in the city.

Meanwhile, UA Finance has been committed to giving back to the community and actively embracing its social responsibility for over 30 years, according to the release. This sponsorship aligns with the brand's slogan, “助你一臂,鬆一口氣”.

To generate excitement, UA Finance has collaborated with the local PR agency The Bridge Agency to launch a series of advertising photos featuring Cheng. Alongside fitness coach Henry Cho, the visuals feature them displaying their strength, aiming to energise the crowd.

Additionally, UA Finance will launch a pre-event street challenge in Mong Kok on September 20. Participants who can defeat a representative from the Hong Kong ArmWrestling Association on-site will immediately win HK$500 in cash, along with free entry to the championship.

The ‘UA Finance Hong Kong International Armwrestling Championship 2025’ seeks to grow and attract international participants, showcasing the charm of Hong Kong as a global hub for sporting events!” he added.
