QMS takes control of MediaWorks’ OOH arm as focus shifts to radio

QMS will take over MediaWorks’ out-of-home division in New Zealand from October as part of a strategic alignment designed to consolidate operations and strengthen MediaWorks’ focus on its radio business.

The move follows MediaWorks success in securing the Auckland Transport street furniture contract earlier this year and will see the OOH portfolio transition to the QMS brand. QMS already manages the City of Sydney street furniture network, positioning the company as the first operator in history to hold both marquee contracts in the ANZ region simultaneously.

MediaWorks CEO Wendy Palmer said the shift would allow the OOH portfolio to scale under QMS’ proven operating model while ensuring radio remains a core growth driver. “Radio is in an incredibly strong position,” she said. “We’ve just achieved our largest-ever survey share, revenue is growing every quarter, and we are continuing to invest in local markets and our digital platform, Rova.”

Barclay Nettlefold, chairman of MediaWorks and QMS, said the realignment was about setting both sides of the business up for long-term success. “Radio is standing tall, delivering consistent results and growth, while our OOH operation gains the backing of one of the most experienced and capable outdoor businesses in Australasia.”

For QMS, the alignment extends its position as the region’s leading digital OOH operator, adding scale in New Zealand at a time when advertisers are demanding more measurable, digital-led solutions. For MediaWorks, it allows sharper focus on radio, where it continues to hold market leadership.
