Samsung Electronics' head of eCommerce Bonnie Mak (pictured) has left to join local digital insurer OneDegree as head of branding and marketing communications. She will report to deputy chief executive Emily Chow.

With a background in marketing and eCommerce, Mak brings expertise to OneDegree as the company pushes forward with technology-driven innovations in the insurance sector, according to the release.

In her new role at OneDegree, Mak will lead the branding and marketing communications team, overseeing branding and community engagement in alignment with the company’s vision to build a better world for the next generation by broadening insurance propositions from risk transfer to risk management, thereby bringing a bigger impact to society. She will also develop and execute the overall marketing strategy to drive brand value and preference, ensuring alignment with OneDegree’s business objectives.

Mak will also be responsible for focusing on crafting branding strategies and developing campaigns to drive brand awareness and develop differentiated positioning in the virtual insurance market, utilising market research and consumer insights to drive data-driven strategic decisions.

In terms of future marketing directions, Mak said in conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that she will lead the brand's marketing efforts by telling the stories of the bond between pets and their owners. "Dogs teach us about unconditional love and the importance of being present. In marketing, as in life, it's about building that same trust and focusing on what truly matters."

Mak is experienced in marketing and strategic leadership. Prior to joining OneDegree, she served as associate director, head of eCommerce, online group at Samsung Electronics, where she spearheaded digital commerce and retail media strategies, leveraging data to drive integrated marketing campaigns.

Prior to Samsung, Mak held roles such as head of marketing in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), strategist in multinational corporations (MNCs), and analyst in telecom, and even founded a research consultancy firm.

Emily Chow, deputy CE of OneDegree, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mak to the OneDegree team. Her extensive experience in marketing, eCommerce, and strategic leadership makes her the perfect fit to elevate our brand and connect with our customers in meaningful ways. Mak’s passion for innovation aligns seamlessly with our vision, and we are confident she will drive significant impact in this role.”

“I am incredibly excited to join OneDegree and contribute to its mission of making insurance more accessible through cutting-edge technology while building a pet-friendly community and preserving a better environment for the next generation. I look forward to creating impactful campaigns that not only resonate with customers but also support OneDegree’s vision of fostering a sustainable and inclusive future,” said Mak.

"'We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them,' Albert Einstein said. So think differently, be creative," she added.
