Mober enters Thai market with EV trucks and IKEA delivery deal

Mober, a green logistics firm from the Philippines, has partnered with multinational furniture giant IKEA to launch operations in Thailand. The move marks Mober's first international expansion, with IKEA tapping the startup for last-mile deliveries in the Bang Na area.

The EV logistics company provides a fleet of 21 electric trucks and a custom-built charging hub in the district. The 1,600-square-metre charging depot features four 22-kW chargers and two 60-kW fast chargers, designed to support 150 to 200 drops daily. It's a scaled-down but strategic counterpart to Mober's massive 3,000-square-metre commercial EV charging hub launched earlier this year in the Philippines.

"Coming from the Philippines, we at Mober are proud to bring our proven green logistics solutions to Thailand, a market with a thriving environment and a promising future for electric vehicles," said Jade Hugo, Mober co-founder and head of new business. "As we officially launch our operations, we are confident we will not only make deliveries in Thailand greener but also contribute to a more sustainable urban environment."

Mober's CEO Dennis Ng said the expansion is a continuation of the company's regional vision. "Mober's expansion to Thailand aligns with our vision to become the leading green logistics provider in SEA. This strategic move is not just about introducing our EVs on the roads of Thailand but, more importantly, continuously building the foundation for sustainable and efficient urban delivery in the region," he said.

To date, Mober has largely built its business around enabling other companies to hit their sustainability goals without upfront capital expenditures. That model seems to have found traction - earlier this year, it introduced the Philippines' first 100% electric tractor head truck for large-scale logistics.

But expansion brings cost. The company is actively raising funding to support its operations both at home and in Thailand, with a stated plan to grow its EV fleet in the latter significantly by early 2026.

Mober's Thailand move also rides on a wave of recent recognition. In May, the company was spotlighted at the Forbes Asia 100 to Watch Forum in Singapore. The list recognises high-growth, high-impact businesses across the region, placing Mober in a league of early-stage firms seen as shaping the region's future.

"This recognition further attests to the global importance of our mission in sustainable logistics," said Ng. "We remain committed to helping businesses achieve net-zero carbon emissions with zero capital expenditures, not only in the Philippines but in Thailand and the region, all towards our vision of a greener future."

Thailand's EV sector continues its steady rise, driven by government incentives and national ambitions to become Southeast Asia's leading EV hub. Following a sharp surge in 2023, sales growth has moderated in 2024 - but momentum remains strong, with projections pointing to a 40% increase in EV sales by 2025.
