Menulog to shut down in Australia after 20 years

Food delivery company Menulog will cease operating in Australia from Wednesday, 26 November, bringing an end to two decades of local service as parent company Just Eat Takeaway.com withdraws from the market.

In an online statement, Menulog said it would stop taking orders from midnight on the 26th, urging customers with unused credits or vouchers to redeem them before the cutoff.

Around 120 employees will be affected, with the company offering redundancy packages above legal requirements and employment support.

“While Menulog has a proud 20-year history, it has been navigating challenging circumstances,” the company said. “This strategic decision reflects our focus on accelerating growth and investments in other markets and delivering the best experience for customers, partners and couriers.”

Just Eat Takeaway.com, headquartered in Amsterdam and listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange (AMS: TKWY), operates food delivery platforms in 15 markets including the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands.

Menulog’s exit marks the latest consolidation in Australia’s crowded delivery market, now largely dominated by Uber Eats and DoorDash. In recent years Deliveroo and Foodora have also halted local operations.
