MediCard deepens digital healthcare push with enhanced Livewell platform

MediCard Philippines is strengthening its preventive healthcare strategy with the enhancement of its Livewell Lifestyle Management Programme, a digital-first initiative designed to help members manage chronic conditions through personalised coaching, medical guidance, and technology-enabled support.

The health company, which serves as the healthcare arm of AIA Philippines, has partnered with Singapore-based health technology and analytics company Amplify Health to power the programme through the AMPED app. The platform connects members with doctors, nutritionists, wellness coaches and support services, allowing patients to access care remotely while monitoring their health progress in real time.

"Livewell is designed to give MediCard members timely, personalised support whenever they need it," said MediCard CEO Julian Mengual. "It helps individuals achieve their health goals in ways that are practical and relevant to their daily lives, while delivering a more seamless and accessible care experience."

The programme offers a long-term care pathway that combines virtual consultations, unlimited text-based coaching and personalised nutrition guidance. Members also gain access to digital tools including AI-powered meal logging, food ratings, activity and sleep tracking, customised health goals, and progress dashboards that monitor biomarkers and weight trends.

To ensure local relevance, all coaches are based in the Philippines and are trained in lifestyle management, with support available in both English and Tagalog.

Healthcare professionals involved in the programme argue that sustained behavioural change depends as much on consistent support as it does on medical intervention.

"Patients stay consistent because of the milestones we set together. When the goals and expected results are clear, they follow through. And as they go along, we continue to support them, communicate with them, and follow up. They know we care," said registered dietitian Emma Perida.

Perida noted that the programme's coaching model is designed to build accountability through regular engagement, helping patients stay committed to healthier habits over time.

Dr Mary Joanne Ramos, MediCard's head of medical governance and capability, said the programme is built around empowering patients to adopt sustainable lifestyle changes rather than relying solely on treatment interventions.

"It must be continuous, consistent, and complete. Continuous effort, consistent good habits, and complete adherence to medication and follow-ups are what truly move patients toward better health," Ramos said.

These principles are reinforced through one-on-one coaching, health tracking tools and programme summary reports, creating a structured framework for long-term disease management.

To introduce the initiative internally, MediCard recently launched a three-day activation called the "Livewell Expedition" at its offices. The immersive event guided employees through a wellness journey featuring blood screenings, health assessments, medical consultations and educational wellness booths.

The company has since expanded the programme through a nationwide roadshow series, bringing similar wellness experiences to several corporate clients and employer groups.
