KFC Philippines taps OPM stars for new anthem paying tribute to its flavour

KFC Philippines has added a fresh beat to the new year with a catchy anthem, joining forces with OPM (Original Pilipino Music) stars Juan Karlos, Zack Tabudlo, and Adie - some of the most talked-about names in the genre.
KFC: Nothing Comes Close combines the energy of Filipino music with the signature taste that defines KFC.
"There's good, then there's finger lickin' good," the song says, as it dropped on January 15. The song marks another chapter in KFC Philippines' music journey, which kicked off in May 2024 with the KFC Kentucky Town: Music and Arts Festival - a similar event previously held in Malaysia and South Africa - headlining stars including the aforementioned names. The event attracted 9,000 fans.
In December, KFC Philippines partnered with Spotify Wrapped, introducing a flavourful twist to your "Your Top Songs 2024" playlist by combining the best of music and food.

The campaign "reflects how KFC is evolving as part of each and every generation. Our song features the vibrant and contemporary sounds of Pinoy music talents, while showcasing KFC in a modern and Gen Z way," a representative from KFC Philippines told MARKETING-INTERACTIVE. "It's a celebration of music, culture and the essence of KFC being one with that celebration. KFC embraces the new music and sound of the times, and what better way to encapsulate that than with the beat of today's vibrant music scene."
KFC Philippines stated that they kicked off this initiative in 2024 with campaigns like Garlic Butter Chicken, where music took center stage, and Kentucky Town, which celebrated music. This year, they also launched KFC Teriyaki Fest, featuring the song Bukas by Juan Karlos.
Looking ahead, more music-driven projects are in the pipeline. "What we've learned from our market last year is that music is their main passion point, and it brings people together no matter their race, gender, preference, or background. In that spirit, music will continue to be a key priority in our 2025 plans," the company added.
KFC Philippines is aggressively expanding with a focus on franchising. The brand recently celebrated the opening of its 400th branch in the country and is introducing a sub-franchising program, where KFC will operate stores on behalf of franchisees.
This initiative will speed up expansion, particularly in areas where local government units are eager for KFC branches, with franchise investments ranging from 19 million pesos (US$925,500) to 40 million pesos (US$1.9 million), depending on location and size.
However, while KFC Philippines has not faced significant boycotts within the country over the war in Gaza, it has been indirectly affected by regional boycotts. As of April 2024, KFC Malaysia temporarily closed over 100 restaurants due to pro-Palestine boycotts. Similarly, as of September 2024, KFC Indonesia shut down 47 outlets, while citing significant financial losses.
