Wine Australia has brought together more than 100 industry participants in Jakarta for a showcase aimed at building trade relationships and introducing Indonesian stakeholders to the diversity of Australian wines, as exports to the market continue to grow.

Held at The Westin Jakarta, the Australian Wine Showcase on 24 October formed part of the Taste Beyond tour, which visited six Southeast Asian cities from 5 to 16 October. The programme included guided tastings, masterclasses and industry discussions for importers, distributors, retailers, sommeliers, hospitality professionals, media and government representatives.

The showcase sought to connect Australian wine producers with regional trade partners while exploring consumer preferences, local market dynamics and potential business opportunities across the food, beverage and hospitality sectors.

“We are pleased to see the enthusiasm of industry players who attended in Jakarta. Many participants were interested in learning more about Australian wine, from its various wine-producing regions and grape varieties to the characteristics of the wines produced,” said Paul Turale, general manager of market development at Wine Australia.

“Interest like this is important for us to continue introducing Australian wine to the Indonesian market, while building better understanding and strengthening relationships with our industry partners here.”

The event comes as Indonesia gains traction as a market for Australian wine. Between July 2025 and June 2026, export volume to Indonesia increased 88% to 864,000 litres, while export value quadrupled to A$21 million.

Australia is among Indonesia's three leading wine suppliers, with demand concentrated among expatriates, international visitors and higher-spending Indonesian consumers in Jakarta and Bali, according to Wine Australia.

Across Southeast Asia, Australian wine exports reached A$293.9 million for the 12 months ending June 2026, recording average annual growth of 7.2% over the past five years.

Beyond trade development, the showcase highlighted the breadth of Australia's wine industry, which spans 65 wine-producing regions with varying climates, soils, elevations and geographical characteristics. These differences shape the grape varieties grown and the styles of wine produced, from cooler-climate expressions to wines from warmer regions.

Wine Australia also pointed to the industry's combination of established winemaking expertise, experimentation with alternative grape varieties and production regions, and growing exploration of sustainable viticulture and winemaking practices.

The Taste Beyond tour covered Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, giving producers opportunities to engage with trade partners and gain insights into local consumer preferences and commercial prospects.

Building on a 2024 programme that attracted nearly 800 industry visitors across four Southeast Asian markets, the 2026 showcase expanded its footprint to six cities, including Malaysia for the first time.
